When it comes to protecting the climate and conserving resources, ebm-papst is always at the forefront. That’s why there were two green projects listed in the top 10 of the Energy category for the GreenTec Awards: Our Energy Scouts (young ambassadors for energy efficiency) and our efficient EC motors (used in fans instead of AC motors). Now the Energy Scouts made it to the final round. “We are happy that we made it into the top three and that we will be travelling to Berlin in May. Sustainability and environmental protection are very important to us and we hope that we can encourage more young people to care about these topics”, say Anna-Lena Balbach, Max Prümmer und Sophia Lang, the three Energy Scouts from Mulfingen.
Trainee project saves a million euros in energy costs
The Energy Scouts (young ambassadors for energy efficiency), are a trainee project that has been raising environmental awareness among young people since 2010. The trainees inspect our plants with infrared cameras and air pressure gauges, looking for potential energy savings. ebm-papst has implemented the project successfully at various sites. The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce incorporated the project into its training program in 2014. Thus far, 1,500 trainees from different companies have been trained as Energy Scouts, and the project has resulted in a reduction of about a million euros in energy costs for ebm-papst.
EC technology for less CO2
Nominated as well were our efficient EC motors (used in fans instead of AC motors) that make a significant contribution to energy savings. The EC motors developed by ebm-papst are mechanically fully compatible with AC motors but work with considerably greater efficiency of up to 90 percent – and their production also requires less material. Refrigeration, air conditioning and building services equipment all benefit. Operating costs are reduced and much less CO2 is produced, lessening the impact on the environment.
Each year the GreenTec Awards honor innovative products and projects that point the way toward a sustainable future.
