“Sounds like a detail, yet it’s a game changer”

The new AxiBlade.Perform for refrigeration and air conditioning technology now has a plastic wall ring. The responsible product manager Johannes Neigert reveals why. (Spoiler alert: It makes installation easier and increases efficiency and air performance.)

Who is the target group for the AxiBlade.Perform and where is it used?

The AxiBlade.Perform is designed for customers in the refrigeration, air conditioning and heating industries who need to move large volumes of air particularly efficiently. Typical applications include chillers, recoolers, condensers and heat pumps, i.e., systems that are usually operated outdoors. This is precisely where axial fans with diameters of 860 and 950 millimeters are used. Wherever large volumes of air, high efficiency and a robust design are required, the AxiBlade.Perform is the best solution.

What exactly can customers expect from the AxiBlade.Perform?

Maximum flexibility. We have completely redesigned the wall ring concept. The new plastic wall ring made of fiber composite material is designed to accommodate all standard installation situations with all common screw-on points in a single product: on-top, flat-top, vertical or horizontal installation, mounted on the suction or pressure side. An external terminal box for the connections can be optionally attached to the side of the device, ensuring flexibility and adaptivity to individual needs. For easier and more efficient service or repairs, there is an optional repair switch. If a technician needs to work on the fan, they simply flip this switch—and boom, no voltage. No more searching in the control cabinet or looking for fuses.

Does the plastic wall ring also play a role in efficiency and performance?

Indeed. We were able to integrate the guide vane directly into the wall ring so it is no longer a separate component, but part of the plastic wall ring. We took the opportunity to optimize the new overall design once again in terms of efficiency. That alone brings a whole two percent efficiency gain compared to the AxiBlade! At the same time, the motor is cooled better, which enables higher power reserves. The bottom line is: same motor-impeller combination, but noticeably better performance.

Is there anything else that’s good for customers?

Quiet operation is always part of the AxiBlade series. In combination with the optional FlowGrid inlet grille, flow noise can be further reduced, especially in confined installation situations. In addition, the AxiBlade.Perform is NEXAIRA-compatible and can therefore be integrated into our digital ecosystem. Even though many customers still focus purely on air performance, such features are an important building block for future-proof, networked systems.

 More features of the AxiBade.Perform:

At the heart of the fans are impellers crafted from high-quality composite material. Their profiled blade geometry, featuring integrated winglets, guide vanes, and a diffuser, achieves high energy efficiency over a wide operating range, while keeping noise at a minimum. The plug-and-play design ensures quick and easy installation and direct 1:1 replacement of the fans. Four pressure taps enable the measurement of differential pressure and/or volume flow. They also serve as a preparatory step for the installation of a FlowGrid, which further reduces noise. Other features include the side-mounted terminal box and an optional heating band, that can be installed in the wall ring to prevent ice formation, especially for use in evaporators.

The AxiBlade.Perform fans support both MODBUS-RTU and the ebm‑papst NEXAIRA cloud connection. Collect operational data in real time for predictive maintenance. An ideal prerequisite for intelligent HVAC systems. With IP55 protection and the environmental class H2 the fans are designed for demanding environmental conditions. They already meet the requirements of the Ecodesign Directive and Fan Regulation 2026, offering a long-term, future-proof solution for OEMs and plant operators.
