This is encour\u00adaged not only by the statu\u00adtory basis created with the Energy Conser\u00adva\u00adtion Direc\u00adtive, but also by increased envi\u00adron\u00admental and cost aware\u00adness on the part of users. Against this back\u00adground, it is no surprise that energy-effi\u00adcient EC tech\u00adnology is increas\u00adingly being employed in all areas of appli\u00adca\u00adtion. To offer manu\u00adfac\u00adturers of venti\u00adlation and air-condi\u00adtioning units the option of contin\u00aduing to use conven\u00adtional AC tech\u00adnology or switching to energy-effi\u00adcient EC tech\u00adnology in the future, the instal\u00adla\u00adtion condi\u00adtions for both motor tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies have to be iden\u00adtical. A new gener\u00ada\u00adtion of EC motors is for the first time as compact as existing AC versions and mechan\u00adi\u00adcally full compat\u00adible. This means that fans can employ either AC or EC tech\u00adnology \u2013 without having to modify the venti\u00adlation or air-condi\u00adtioning unit.<\/p>\n<p>So-called \u201casyn\u00adchro\u00adnous motors\u201d are frequently employed today to drive fans in venti\u00adlation and air-condi\u00adtioning units. These AC motors are compact and simple assem\u00adblies as they are fed directly from the A\/C or three-phase current supply. Neither mechan\u00adical collec\u00adtors nor elec\u00adtronics are needed to power the rotor. They are robust and reli\u00adable. However, EC motors achieve a much higher degree of effi\u00adciency than AC motors, and this will be neces\u00adsary in the near future with an eye on the require\u00adments of the Energy Conser\u00adva\u00adtion Direc\u00adtive.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7377\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 200px\"><a title=\"The development represented a great technical challenge. The motors and fan specialist ebm-papst Mulfingen has devel\u00adoped a new gener\u00ada\u00adtion of EC motors featuring inte\u00adgrated commu\u00adta\u00adtion and drive elec\u00adtronics, and which are just as compact as conven\u00adtional AC motors. On both axial and centrifugal fans, the orig\u00adinal AC motors can now be simply exchanged for a new EC design. The excep\u00adtion\u00adally high effi\u00adciency of EC motors \u2013 up to 90% \u2013 can be enjoyed without having to make design modi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions to the customer\u2019s equip\u00adment. Oper\u00adating costs are cut and substan\u00adtially less CO2 is gener\u00adated from the very first hour of oper\u00ada\u00adtion, reducing the impact on the envi\u00adron\u00adment. At the same time, the drives impress with their quiet running, which is espe\u00adcially bene\u00adfi\u00adcial for equip\u00adment used in domestic appli\u00adca\u00adtions. The key to this is an espe\u00adcially low-noise commu\u00adta\u00adtion which is precisely adjusted to the three core elec\u00adtron\u00adi\u00adcally commu\u00adtated motor.<\/p>\n<h2>Iden\u00adtical input and output dimen\u00adsions<\/h2>\n<p>EC motors are, by way of their prin\u00adciple, synchro\u00adnous motors actu\u00adated by perma\u00adnent magnets. The magnetic rotor synchro\u00adnously follows an elec\u00adtron\u00adi\u00adcally gener\u00adated rotating field. This allows any random oper\u00adating speeds to be realised, regard\u00adless of the power frequency used. The devel\u00adop\u00adment repre\u00adsented a great tech\u00adnical chal\u00adlenge to accom\u00admo\u00addate the elec\u00adtronics needed by EC motors in the limited space avail\u00adable. Apart from the minia\u00adtur\u00adi\u00adsa\u00adtion and opti\u00admi\u00adsa\u00adtion of the elec\u00adtronics, mechan\u00adical compat\u00adi\u00adbility was also a neces\u00adsity. This includes, for example, the same mounting flange design as that employed on AC motors and the complete struc\u00adtural shape of the motor had to be modi\u00adfied.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7380\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 200px\"><a title=\"Mechanical compatibility. The stator core is coated in ther\u00admo\u00adplastic, which has several different bene\u00adfits in prac\u00adtical appli\u00adca\u00adtion. Firstly, the high-quality plastic mate\u00adrial provides for good elec\u00adtrical insu\u00adla\u00adtion. And secondly, the ball-bearing mounting can be inte\u00adgrated. Panel thick\u00adnesses and sepa\u00adra\u00adtions can be varied according to design. Toler\u00adances in the core pack, for example, can be compen\u00adsated for in this way. After this, the complete winding of the subassembly is coated with duro\u00adplastic. The single-piece rotor, which turns around the stator, has been aero\u00addy\u00adnam\u00adi\u00adcally opti\u00admised. Air intakes in the rotor provide for perfect heat dissi\u00adpa\u00adtion for the stator. In conjunc\u00adtion with the coated stator, a high IP protec\u00adtion rating (IP54) is guar\u00adan\u00adteed for the motors.<\/p>\n<p>The sealing of the elec\u00adtronics also plays an impor\u00adtant role here. Instead of the solu\u00adtions that used to be common, featuring a flange and various O-rings, the elec\u00adtronics case has been given an elastic sealing compo\u00adnent. That guar\u00adan\u00adtees long-term protec\u00adtion for the elec\u00adtronics. The complete motor is robust, insen\u00adsi\u00adtive to shock and impressed with its reli\u00ada\u00adbility and long service life.<\/p>\n<h2>Sustain\u00adable design and modular system<\/h2>\n<p>When designing the new EC motors, great value was attached to sustain\u00adability and to resource-conserving manu\u00adfac\u00adturing. There are several details that contribute to this. The single-piece rotor with pressed-in shaft reduced the number of manu\u00adfac\u00adturing steps. Multi\u00adfunc\u00adtion compo\u00adnents mean fewer indi\u00advidual parts are needed. The heat dissi\u00adpa\u00adtion concept and a compa\u00adrably compact package length also help to reduce the amount of mate\u00adrial used. Another expan\u00adsion of the series is planned. The modular concept results in a modular system that permits many different vari\u00adants. This way, for example, a smaller motor can be equipped with more powerful elec\u00adtronics. This makes sense if more output is required with the same torque. EC motors are avail\u00adable as stan\u00addard with two speed stages. As an option, a freely adjustable speed control with a 0-10 volt control voltage is possible, e.g. for fan oper\u00ada\u00adtion that is precisely adapted to indi\u00advidual require\u00adments. In conjunc\u00adtion with the aero\u00addy\u00adnam\u00adi\u00adcally opti\u00admised HyBlade\u00ae blades or RadiCal impeller, these fans, with EC tech\u00adnology, repre\u00adsent an energy-effi\u00adcient unit in venti\u00adlation and air-condi\u00adtioning tech\u00adnology.
