Building a new car factory involves far more than simply housing large produc\u00adtion lines under one roof. Both people and machines need the right working condi\u00adtions \u2014 above all, fresh air and comfort\u00adable temper\u00ada\u00adtures. Venti\u00adlation and air condi\u00adtioning systems in the produc\u00adtion halls ensure the quality of the air. But which fan tech\u00adnology should these air handling units (AHUs) use \u2014 AC or EC? AC Tech\u00adnology: Only Cheap at First Glance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

AHUs for a new elec\u00adtric car factory? That sounds like a case for EC tech\u00adnology. But the orig\u00adinal request for proposals called for locally manu\u00adfac\u00adtured AC fans \u2014 a tech\u00adnology the auto\u00admo\u00adtive manu\u00adfac\u00adturer has tradi\u00adtion\u00adally relied on. And this is no excep\u00adtion in Korea: AC fans and belt-driven systems are widely used there, have a proven track record, and are cheaper to purchase. But the truth is also that AC fans consume signif\u00adi\u00adcantly more elec\u00adtricity for the same output. This makes the tech\u00adnology more expen\u00adsive in the long run \u2014 espe\u00adcially as energy prices rise world\u00adwide. There\u00adfore, simply looking at the data sheet was not the deciding factor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Korean equip\u00adment manu\u00adfac\u00adturer Cheong Nam Air Condi\u00adtioner Inc. entered the bidding process with a revised AHU solu\u00adtion. Instead of the AC fans orig\u00adi\u00adnally spec\u00adi\u00adfied, the company opted for effi\u00adcient EC tech\u00adnology from ebm-papst \u2014 and was awarded the contract. A total of 52 RadiPac 3C units were selected for the AHUs. On both the supply and return air sides, they are arranged in a FanGrid config\u00adu\u00adra\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EC tech\u00adnology that pays off<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

But what makes the RadiPac 3C so effi\u00adcient? Several factors work together: The EC motor ensures energy-effi\u00adcient oper\u00ada\u00adtion, the opti\u00admized aero\u00addy\u00adnamics keep flow losses low, and the speed can be contin\u00adu\u00adously adjusted to current demand via Modbus. Instead of running contin\u00adu\u00adously at full power, the fan delivers only as much air as is currently needed in the produc\u00adtion halls. Thanks to its low-vibra\u00adtion design, it also remains pleas\u00adantly quiet. The compact design of the EC centrifugal fan is a further attrac\u00adtive attribute: The impeller, motor, and elec\u00adtronics form a ready-to-install unit that takes up very little space in the AHUs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
