A comfort\u00adable home starts with good air. \u201cGood\u201d means air with enough oxygen that is free of unpleasant odors, pollu\u00adtants, fine dust parti\u00adcles, or aller\u00adgens. That\u2019s why resi\u00adden\u00adtial venti\u00adlation systems are in high demand. They contin\u00adu\u00adously exchange the air and filter out every\u00adthing that compro\u00admises the quality of life within your home. At the same time, they auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcally remove excess humidity, thereby preventing mold growth. What remains is fresh air and a pleasant indoor atmos\u00adphere \u2014 without any need for manual venti\u00adlation. Modern systems also help save energy. If equipped with heat recovery, they utilize the heat from the exhaust air to warm the incoming fresh air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More power for large rooms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Maarten Van Over\u00adbeke and Jasper Allert are experts when it comes to indoor venti\u00adlation systems. The two devel\u00adopers work at the Belgian family-owned company Renson and have recently launched a new model of a venti\u00adlation unit with heat recovery: the Flux+ Wall. It oper\u00adates mechan\u00adi\u00adcally and combines auto\u00admatic air supply as well as demand-controlled exhaust venti\u00adlation with a heat exchanger. The new product stands out with a signif\u00adi\u00adcantly higher airflow rate than any previous unit. Product Manager Jasper Allert explains: \u201cWith the Flux+ Wall 650, we wanted to go beyond what compa\u00adrable units can achieve while main\u00adtaining the same housing dimen\u00adsions. Whereas competing prod\u00aducts typi\u00adcally range from 550 to 600 cubic meters per hour, we achieve an airflow rate of 650 cubic meters per hour at 200 pascals.\u201d This means that even larger homes, gyms, offices, or medical prac\u00adtices can be reli\u00adably venti\u00adlated with a compact unit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A perfect combi\u00adna\u00adtion <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This increased airflow is made possible by the clever combi\u00adna\u00adtion of fans and housing. Each Flux+ Wall contains two RadiCal 2 fans from ebm-papst. Both fans operate in parallel and are elec\u00adtron\u00adi\u00adcally coor\u00addi\u00adnated: One draws in fresh outside air, chan\u00adnels it through the filter and heat exchanger, and blows the fresh, preheated air into the living space. At the same time, the second fan extracts stale, humid, or odor-laden air from the rooms and directs it through the heat exchanger to the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together with his team, van Over\u00adbeke decided to develop an in-house solu\u00adtion for a custom scroll housing. They received support in flow tech\u00adnology from the experts at ebm-papst. The design of the outlet area was partic\u00adu\u00adlarly impor\u00adtant to achieve high airflow without compro\u00admising acoustics. \u201cWe then opti\u00admized the housing over several devel\u00adop\u00adment stages in our own acoustics lab,\u201d explains van Over\u00adbeke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saves energy, simpli\u00adfies instal\u00adla\u00adtion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The result isn\u2019t just impres\u00adsive because of its higher perfor\u00admance: \u201cBy combining the energy-effi\u00adcient RadiCal 2 with our patented housing design, we were able to achieve savings of up to 30 percent,\u201d van Over\u00adbeke notes with satis\u00adfac\u00adtion. The fan\u2019s 20 percent lower power consump\u00adtion contributes to this, while the new scroll housing saves an addi\u00adtional 10 percent. Jasper Allert adds: \u201cThis makes the Flux+ Wall one of the most energy-effi\u00adcient units on the market.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Measuring 870 x 790 x 580 millime\u00adters, the system takes up very little space. It is made of expanded polypropy\u00adlene, or EPP for short. This ther\u00admo\u00adplastic foam is excep\u00adtion\u00adally light\u00adweight. The Renson unit weighs just 29 kilo\u00adgrams, making instal\u00adla\u00adtion easier. This was partic\u00adu\u00adlarly impor\u00adtant to the devel\u00adopers. Jasper Allert explains: \u201cWe\u2019ve equipped the Flux+ Wall with dual connec\u00adtion options on each side. Depending on the avail\u00adable space, installers can connect the pipes on the left or right.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wide range of possible combi\u00adna\u00adtions also simpli\u00adfies retro\u00adfitting in existing build\u00adings. Main\u00adte\u00adnance of the venti\u00adlation system isjust as quick and straight\u00adfor\u00adward: All compo\u00adnents can be removed in less than five minutes. \u201cMost compo\u00adnents are plug-in and can be removed and installed without tools. We used only nine screws for the entire system, and they\u2019re all iden\u00adtical. A single screw\u00addriver is all it takes to unit,\u201d explains van Over\u00adbeke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A favorite among customers and critics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new venti\u00adlation system is already well received by end customers. Whether in Belgium, the Nether\u00adlands, Australia, or Japan, whether in a resi\u00adden\u00adtial home or a gym \u2014 the feed\u00adback has been consis\u00adtently posi\u00adtive: Even at maximum airflow, it is very quiet and produces no annoying sounds or high\u00adpitched noises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With its new features, the Flux+ Wall also impressed the expert jury at the inter\u00adna\u00adtional VSK trade fair for heating, plumbing, and air condi\u00adtioning tech\u00adnology in the Nether\u00adlands. The jury honored the unit with the VSK+E Award in the \u201cHealthy Build\u00adings, Better Life\u201d cate\u00adgory. For Maarten van Over\u00adbeke and Jasper Allert, this is a vali\u00adda\u00adtion of their work. And the pair are already looking ahead: \u201cWe learned a lot during devel\u00adop\u00adment \u2014 for example, through flow simu\u00adla\u00adtions, acoustic tests, and the devel\u00adop\u00adment steps for the scroll housing.
