However, indus\u00adtrial and office build\u00adings, hospi\u00adtals, hotels, and larger resi\u00adden\u00adtial complexes are consid\u00adered partic\u00adu\u00adlarly chal\u00adlenging candi\u00addates for switching from fossil fuel heating systems to more sustain\u00adable solu\u00adtions like heat pumps. This is because the low flow temper\u00ada\u00adtures of conven\u00adtional heat pumps require exten\u00adsive reno\u00adva\u00adtion work: radi\u00ada\u00adtors would have to be removed, under\u00adfloor heating installed, and piping replaced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luigi Buttiglione wants to change this: \u201cHeat pumps are among the most effec\u00adtive tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies for decar\u00adbonizing the heating sector.\u201d For this reason, a team of experts with decades of expe\u00adri\u00adence in the fields of HVAC and refrig\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion tech\u00adnology founded Dether\u00admina in 2023. Head\u00adquar\u00adtered in Naples, Italy, the company aims to imple\u00adment the energy tran\u00adsi\u00adtion in the heating sector rapidly, easily, safely, and cost-effec\u00adtively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solu\u00adtion: high-temper\u00ada\u00adture heat pumps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a very short time, the young company has carved out a niche in the heating market for complex existing build\u00adings. \u201cOur port\u00adfolio includes air-to-water heat pumps with capac\u00adi\u00adties ranging from 30 to 300 kilo\u00adwatts that deliver high water temper\u00ada\u00adtures even at low outdoor temper\u00ada\u00adtures,\u201d explains Buttiglione. To achieve this, Dether\u00admina relies on the natural refrig\u00aderant R290, also known as propane. \u201cIn addi\u00adtion to its extremely low global warming poten\u00adtial, propane offers excel\u00adlent ther\u00admo\u00addy\u00adnamic prop\u00ader\u00adties and enables the devel\u00adop\u00adment of highly effi\u00adcient heat pumps,\u201d says Buttiglione. Dethermina\u2019s units can reli\u00adably deliver water at 80 degrees Celsius even when outdoor temper\u00ada\u00adtures drop to as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius. This makes it possible to replace oil or gas heating systems without the need for exten\u00adsive reno\u00adva\u00adtion work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three compo\u00adnents for less noise and greater effi\u00adciency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

However, the natural refrig\u00aderant is not solely respon\u00adsible for this success. Another key factor is the fans, which draw air effi\u00adciently into the system for heat recovery. More\u00adover, they are a crit\u00adical compo\u00adnent, as they are largely respon\u00adsible for the unit\u2019s noise levels. Buttiglione wanted a solu\u00adtion that met several require\u00adments at once: high aero\u00addy\u00adnamic effi\u00adciency, low noise levels, long-term reli\u00ada\u00adbility, easy inte\u00adgra\u00adtion, and consis\u00adtent performance\u2014even under diffi\u00adcult climatic condi\u00adtions. So, he didn\u2019t have to think long about who the right partner for this would be. Paroni had an imme\u00addiate solu\u00adtion: a combi\u00adna\u00adtion of the HyBlade axial fan in size 800, the AxiTop diffuser, and the flow-opti\u00admized Flow\u00adGrid inlet grille. Buttiglione summa\u00adrizes the advan\u00adtages of this three-part combi\u00adna\u00adtion as follows: \u201cWith the fan alone, such an effi\u00adcient and at the same time low-noise solu\u00adtion would not have been possible. HyBlade ensures high effi\u00adciency, AxiTop opti\u00admizes the flow condi\u00adtions, and Flow\u00adGrid reduces turbu\u00adlence and the asso\u00adci\u00adated noise.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expressed in numbers, the combi\u00adna\u00adtion of these three compo\u00adnents reduces the sound pres\u00adsure level of the 50-kilo\u00adwatt units by more than 3 dB(A). At the same time, each fan achieves an airflow rate of 22,500 m\u00b3\/h. This allows the units to make the best possible use of the ambient temper\u00ada\u00adture for heat recovery without disturbing the surround\u00adings with exces\u00adsive noise. Depending on the heat pump\u2019s perfor\u00admance class, Dether\u00admina uses up to six fans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About 100 Dether\u00admina units are currently in use, but Buttiglione wants to expand the company further: \u201cOur focus is currently on the Italian market. However, our goal is to grad\u00adu\u00adally expand our pres\u00adence in other Euro\u00adpean markets.\u201d It is clear to him that ebm-papst\u2019s solu\u00adtions will continue to play a role in this: \u201cWe view ebm-papst as a strategic tech\u00adnology partner and intend to continue our collab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion on the devel\u00adop\u00adment of future gener\u00ada\u00adtions of heat pumps.\u201d Tests are already underway with the highly effi\u00adcient AxiBlade.Perform fan, which is now avail\u00adable in the size required by Dether\u00admina. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
