It replaces stale air in build\u00adings open to the public and removes large amounts of waste heat from data centers or produc\u00adtion facil\u00adi\u00adties. In both cases, large airflows must be moved as effi\u00adciently as possible. The fan special\u00adists at ebm-papst have devel\u00adoped a new fan design for such tasks that moves large volumes of air at high effi\u00adciency in compact spaces, offering many advan\u00adtages for manu\u00adfac\u00adturers of modern HVAC and venti\u00adlation equip\u00adment. The fan enables high power density and low-turbu\u00adlence oper\u00ada\u00adtion in FanGrids, even in tight air ducts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading no-clear\">Opti\u00admized composite impeller geom\u00adetry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Air condi\u00adtioning is a major cost factor when consid\u00adering the oper\u00adating costs of large build\u00adings, data centers or produc\u00adtion facil\u00adi\u00adties. Since fans in these build\u00adings operate 24\/7, invest\u00adments in more effi\u00adcient compo\u00adnents quickly pay off. Such appli\u00adca\u00adtions typi\u00adcally operate at low to medium back pres\u00adsure and need to be as compact as possible (Figure 1). This blade geom\u00adetry dras\u00adti\u00adcally reduces flow losses. Based on modern manu\u00adfac\u00adturing processes, the impeller has been signif\u00adi\u00adcantly improved, and a diag\u00adonal 6-blade design has been devel\u00adoped that ensures axial flow. When comparing the perfor\u00admance of the Radi\u00adFlow in an installed state with that of conven\u00adtional centrifugal fans, it delivers the full air volume without any loss of perfor\u00admance when installed in a 910\u00d7910 mm venti\u00adlation box, whereas other centrifugal fans require perfor\u00admance adjust\u00adments in this confined instal\u00adla\u00adtion space. For a 2\u00d72 FanGrid with four fans, this trans\u00adlates to a space saving of up to 40% (Figure 4). The overall length is also signif\u00adi\u00adcantly shorter. The highly effi\u00adcient EC motor is inte\u00adgrated into the impeller in such a way that 30 to 100 mm less space is required. (Image | ebm-papst)<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eight struts were precisely adapted to the impeller geom\u00adetry and distribute force across four mounting points (Figure 5). An inte\u00adgrated reso\u00adnance detec\u00adtion system in the motor elec\u00adtronics iden\u00adti\u00adfies instal\u00adla\u00adtion-specific reso\u00adnance ranges during the ramp-up to rated speed. These speeds can be specif\u00adi\u00adcally avoided or quickly by-passed during subse\u00adquent oper\u00ada\u00adtion. This protects the bear\u00adings, increases oper\u00ada\u00adtional reli\u00ada\u00adbility and prevents prema\u00adture failure of the fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Active \u201cpower factor correc\u00adtion\u201d mini\u00admizes grid distur\u00adbances<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speed control is essen\u00adtial for demand-based air condi\u00adtioning. However, speed-controlled drives inher\u00adently generate elec\u00adtrical harmonics during oper\u00ada\u00adtion. When combined with an under\u00adsized power supply, these can cause prob\u00adlems in crit\u00adical infra\u00adstruc\u00adture. The resulting harmonics place a greater load on the power grid and cause losses due to reac\u00adtive power. Addi\u00adtion\u00adally, other devices in the system network can be nega\u00adtively affected. Active PFC takes the approach of preventing current harmonics from arising in the first place, rather than labo\u00adri\u00adously filtering them out after\u00adward with addi\u00adtional compo\u00adnents. As a result, infra\u00adstruc\u00adture compo\u00adnents for power and emer\u00adgency power supply\u2014such as trans\u00adformers and emer\u00adgency power generators\u2014can be designed to be smaller and thus more cost-effec\u00adtive. The values achiev\u00adable with Active PFC are impres\u00adsive: The power factor is over 0.99, the THD(I) is typi\u00adcally around 2% at rated power and remains below 5% even when reduced to 10% of rated power. THD(I) stands for Total Harmonic Distor\u00adtion of Current and indi\u00adcates the extent of current distor\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading no-clear\">Effi\u00adcient, networked and future-proof<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Radi\u00adFlow fans are avail\u00adable with rated power outputs of 4 and 8 kW with passive PFC, as well as 4 and 7 kW with active PFC. They can be controlled via either 0-10 VDC or MODBUS RTU and are equipped with inte\u00adgrated EMC filters. They comply with rele\u00advant EU direc\u00adtives as well as inter\u00adna\u00adtional certi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions such as UL. Addi\u00adtion\u00adally, external sensors can be inte\u00adgrated into the fan control system and used for remote moni\u00adtoring func\u00adtions.
