The short answer: as long as its ball bearing. The service life of the ball bearing is deter\u00admined by a complex inter\u00adac\u00adtion of temper\u00ada\u00adture, speed and lubri\u00adca\u00adtion. A distinc\u00adtion is made between the mechan\u00adical service life\u2014often referred to as the L10 service life\u2014and the grease service life, which describes the aging of the lubri\u00adcant. The calcu\u00adla\u00adtion of the mechan\u00adical service life L10 is described in the DIN ISO 281 stan\u00addard and spec\u00adi\u00adfies the time until 10 percent of a large number of ball bear\u00adings fail due to mate\u00adrial fatigue. The mechan\u00adical service life can be posi\u00adtively influ\u00adenced by the size of the ball bearing and is gener\u00adally not crit\u00adical due to the rela\u00adtively low forces in the fan. The calcu\u00adla\u00adtion is based on ebm-papst\u2019s expe\u00adri\u00adence and is calcu\u00adlated from speed-depen\u00addent recom\u00admen\u00adda\u00adtions for ball bearing relu\u00adbri\u00adca\u00adtion inter\u00advals (tf) and temper\u00ada\u00adture-depen\u00addent adjust\u00adment factors (AxT). In the design of the ball bear\u00adings, both calcu\u00adla\u00adtions (L10 and grease service life) are performed using worst-case data, i.e., oper\u00ada\u00adtion under full load and constantly high temper\u00ada\u00adtures.<br>As part of its NEXAIRA digital ecosystem, ebm-papst uses real-time fan data for its Fan Health Status service to perform dynamic calcu\u00adla\u00adtions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sensors record the speed and temper\u00ada\u00adtures of the envi\u00adron\u00adment, the elec\u00adtronics and the motor. An algo\u00adrithm uses this data to calcu\u00adlate the bearing temper\u00ada\u00adture and can deter\u00admine the remaining service life more accu\u00adrately. The algo\u00adrithm also accesses an internal measure\u00adment data\u00adbase from ebm-papst in order to adapt it indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adally to the respec\u00adtive ball bearing type in the moni\u00adtored fan. If fans run slower than expected\u2014which is often the case in reality\u2014the remaining service life is extended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the future, addi\u00adtional sensors will be used to incor\u00adpo\u00adrate vibra\u00adtion data into the calcu\u00adla\u00adtion, for example. For customers, this means a real plus in terms of trans\u00adparency and plan\u00adning reli\u00ada\u00adbility. Knowing how heavily your fans are actu\u00adally loaded allows you to adjust main\u00adte\u00adnance inter\u00advals, avoid down\u00adtime and plan service calls more effec\u00adtively.
