However, it has been daily reality for Reiner Riedle and Raphael Mayer since they estab\u00adlished their own company two years ago. AIRnorm GmbH, based in Engen im Hegau in southern Germany, special\u00adizes in venti\u00adlation and air condi\u00adtioning, process air filtra\u00adtion, and retro\u00adfits for existing systems. Riedle and Mayer are enthu\u00adsi\u00adastic about what they do and, with their company, have fulfilled their dream of promoting inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive and effi\u00adcient venti\u00adlation and air condi\u00adtioning tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along\u00adside the patented two-stage adia\u00adbatic cooling process that is their favorite tech\u00adnology, retro\u00adfitting existing systems is an impor\u00adtant part of the company\u2019s port\u00adfolio. He reviewed the entire venti\u00adlation system in Hall 3, one of the customer\u2019s five produc\u00adtion build\u00adings. Analysis of the data showed that a retrofit would yield energy savings of around 30 percent. The customer was inter\u00adested because Riedle\u2019s analysis and calcu\u00adla\u00adtion revealed that the neces\u00adsary invest\u00adment would be amor\u00adtized in less than four years. After speaking with the company\u2019s manage\u00adment, a more detailed presen\u00adta\u00adtion of the retrofit project was requested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">System avail\u00adability has priority<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Riedle and Mayer proposed replacing the existing IE4 motors (Inter\u00adna\u00adtional Energy Effi\u00adciency Class 4), each of which powered a centrifugal fan in the exhaust and air intake housing via a V-belt, with FanGrids consisting of five EC fans from ebm-papst. The back\u00adward curved RadiPac centrifugal fans are mounted in specially produced aluminum frames. These assem\u00adblies, known as FanGrids, are usually produced in such a way that more fans can be added quickly if required. In addi\u00adtion to the calcu\u00adlated energy savings, Riedle and Mayer high\u00adlighted the redun\u00addancy provided by several fans compared with just one single fan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf there is a problem with the fan\u2019s impeller or housing, replace\u00adment parts are not quickly avail\u00adable. Depending on the year of construc\u00adtion, their supply takes three to four weeks at least. This trig\u00adgered alarm bells for the customer. The exhaust air from the machine tools in Hall 2 is directly connected to the venti\u00adlation system. Failure of this system would there\u00adfore result in a produc\u00adtion stop\u00adpage because the oil aerosols produced by the machine tools could no longer be extracted and the building would be \u201cflooded\u201d with oil mist within just a short time. There was an urgent need for action. The customer decided to defer upgrading the venti\u00adlation system in Hall 3 and commis\u00adsion the Hall 2 retrofit from AIRnorm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Three-and-a-half days for more safety<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The retrofit was carried out during the summer vaca\u00adtion. \u201cSince the customer was closing for a week anyway, it was possible to shut down the system,\u201d recounts Riedle. \u201cRemoving the old drive motor was a chal\u00adlenge,\u201d explains Mayer. \u201cIt weighed 320 kilo\u00adgrams and had to be lowered safely from a height of two-and-a-half meters.\u201d The customer provided suit\u00adable lifting vehi\u00adcles for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201eWe prepared the system design, discussed it with Breuell &amp; Hilgen\u00adfeldt and then had the whole thing veri\u00adfied by ebm-papst\u2019s FanScout design program.\u201c<\/p>\n<cite>Reiner Riedle, General Manager AIRnorm GmbH<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In plan\u00adning the project, Reiner Riedle and Raphael Mayer were supported by Breuell &amp; Hilgen\u00adfeldt, the ebm-papst sales partner for retro\u00adfits. \u201cThis collab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion was a real success,\u201d enthuses Riedle. \u201cI have rarely expe\u00adri\u00adenced the level of coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion we received from Dieter Hilde\u00adbrandt.\u201d And Raphael Mayer adds: \u201cWe prepared the system design, discussed it with Mr. Hilde\u00adbrandt, and then had the whole thing veri\u00adfied by ebm-papst\u2019s FanScout design program. We then set about choosing the fans.\u201d The perfect solu\u00adtion was the RadiPac C, an EC centrifugal fan char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adized by high effi\u00adciency, compact design, and plug &amp; play capa\u00adbility for use in FanGrids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hand in hand for the perfect oper\u00ada\u00adtion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to install the RadiPac, the AIRnorm special\u00adists had the neces\u00adsary aluminum brackets manu\u00adfac\u00adtured. One reserve space in each of the FanGrids means an addi\u00adtional fan can be installed quickly and easily if required. As the customer has only one access point to the fan chamber, Riedle and Mayer planned a remov\u00adable segment that also gives access to the fan from the intake side. \u201cThis makes it much easier to perform main\u00adte\u00adnance work such as cleaning the heat exchanger register,\u201d explains Riedle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-ea7585ca80fdd63a30cd284e5f7c63cc is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"background-color:#00a633\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:32%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-large-font-size\">30 %<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">energy savings<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:35%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-large-font-size\">5<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">new RadiPac EC fans<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:45%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center zahl has-large-font-size\">54,000&nbsp;kWh<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">lower power consump\u00adtion<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addi\u00adtion to the two FanGrids for air supply and exhaust air, the project scope included two control cabi\u00adnets with MDC (MODBUS Display &amp; Control) from Breuell &amp; Hilgen\u00adfeldt. The MDC is a simple closed-loop system for control\u00adling the oper\u00adating para\u00adme\u00adters. It also allows the optional inte\u00adgra\u00adtion of the oper\u00adating data into a building control system via a BUS system. This type of autonomous control has the addi\u00adtional advan\u00adtage that it is not neces\u00adsary to inter\u00advene in the existing system\u2019s often outdated control concept. \u201cStan\u00addard\u00adized cable outlets are used in the control cabinet,\u201d explains Mayer. \u201cHowever, the customer had thicker shielded cables because vari\u00adable frequency drives were previ\u00adously in use. That was no problem for Breuell &amp; Hilgen\u00adfeldt. They supplied the control cabi\u00adnets with larger cable bush\u00adings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The customer was very satis\u00adfied with the upgrade process. Thanks to the excel\u00adlent collab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion between AIRnorm and Dieter Hilde\u00adbrandt at Breuell &amp; Hilgen\u00adfeldt, the retrofit \u2013 including commis\u00adsioning \u2013 was completed within three-and-a-half days. Subse\u00adquent measure\u00adments have confirmed the antic\u00adi\u00adpated energy savings of 30 percent. \u201cThat\u2019s around 54,000 kilo\u00adwatt hours per year. This is impres\u00adsive and enabled the retrofit project to qualify for a subsidy from the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) \u2013 which was the icing on the cake,\u201d summa\u00adrizes Riedle with satis\u00adfac\u00adtion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Acquiring new customers is a tough job.
