Since April 2022, we have been using the facility in Hollen\u00adbach to test fans, drive modules and other ebm-papst prod\u00aducts in large climate cham\u00adbers, salt-fog cham\u00adbers, and other test envi\u00adron\u00adments to ensure that they meet all our envi\u00adron\u00admental require\u00adments. These include the effects of temper\u00ada\u00adture, mois\u00adture, and corro\u00adsion on the prod\u00aducts, as well as risk of pene\u00adtra\u00adtion by foreign substances and wheel strength. In 2023 alone, over 430 tests were carried out at our Hollen\u00adbach site \u2013 which is now our fourth test center along\u00adside Land\u00adshut, St. Georgen and Shanghai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Energy consump\u00adtion signif\u00adi\u00adcantly reduced in 2023<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith the new test center, we have finally united under one roof the labo\u00adra\u00adto\u00adries that were previ\u00adously spread across different areas of the Hollen\u00adbach plant. This deci\u00adsion was defi\u00adnitely the right move,\u201d says Markus Stein\u00admann, Director Test Depart\u00adment at ebm-papst, on his initial impres\u00adsion of the change. \u201cFirstly, it has allowed us to signif\u00adi\u00adcantly improve the effi\u00adciency of our daily processes thanks to shorter distances between stations and leaner struc\u00adtures. Secondly, it means we are now making more sustain\u00adable use of our resources.\u201d One of the ways this is reflected is in the sites\u2019 energy consump\u00adtion over time. In 2021, the total energy consump\u00adtion across the different test loca\u00adtions came out at over 4,000 megawatt hours; this figure had halved to 2,160 MWh by the end of 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This progress is also thanks to our intro\u00adduc\u00adtion of smarter test strate\u00adgies, as Erich Kemmer, Team Lead Vali\u00adda\u00adtion, explains: \u201cWe now carry out our tests under controlled condi\u00adtions, at the right time, as early as possible in the process, and in a way that requires as little effort and energy as possible. The resulting opti\u00admiza\u00adtions are directly reflected in the results. Take the service life test, for example: We used to run the fans and venti\u00adla\u00adtors at ambient temper\u00ada\u00adture until they failed (end-of-life test). Now, we test the devices at their maximum permis\u00adsible ambient temper\u00ada\u00adture and maximum load over a period of six months. This not only increases the accu\u00adracy of the results; it also reduces testing time, and thus energy consump\u00adtion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
