For farmers, the advan\u00adtage of this is that they save on labor costs. It also ensures that the plants grow undis\u00adturbed, as there is no need for humans to get involved at all and no cont\u00ada\u00adm\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtion is intro\u00adduced into the sensi\u00adtive system. The cells invented by Artechno have a modular design, which offers customers many advan\u00adtages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey can adapt our cells to the needs of the partic\u00adular crop, the avail\u00adable space and the desired produc\u00adtion volume. They start with a few key compo\u00adnents, for example, and can expand the vertical farm as required,\u201d explains Rudy van den Berg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group mgznkr-elements mgznkr-box\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From small cell to factory<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-article-450 is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ebmpapst-7237.kxcdn.com\/de\/files\/2024\/03\/zelle_innenansicht_rendering1-450x253.png\" alt class=\"wp-image-31878\" style=\"width:333px;height:auto\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">(Photo | Artechno Growsys\u00adtems)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The smallest cell that Artechno offers is only 15 square meters in size, meaning that it fits into virtu\u00adally any barn. If farmers want to grow more plants and increase their yields, they can line up several cells. If they add conveyor belts, washing stations and pack\u00adaging lines, they have a \u201cplant factory\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From seedling to delivery, all the processes are auto\u00admated. This makes a culti\u00adva\u00adtion area of 9,600 square meters or more possible. The cells have <strong>auto\u00admated climate control systems<\/strong> for temper\u00ada\u00adture, CO2, humidity and air flow. In addi\u00adtion, they <strong>provide irri\u00adga\u00adtion<\/strong> and supply the plants with nutri\u00adents. The <strong>light can also be controlled<\/strong>, depending on the desired spec\u00adtrum and inten\u00adsity. As an option, the growth of the greenery can also be moni\u00adtored using cameras as optical sensors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vertical agri\u00adcul\u00adture as an industry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group mgznkr-elements mgznkr-box mgznkr-box-right\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading no-clear\">Aiming high in vertical farming<\/h4>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image no-clear\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebmpapst.com\/de\/de\/industries\/ventilation\/vertical-farming.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ebmpapst-7237.kxcdn.com\/de\/files\/2024\/03\/vertical-farming-260x260.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-31841\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Effi\u00adcient venti\u00adlation, air condi\u00adtioning and automa\u00adtion with fans, blowers, drives and AGVs from ebm-papst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebmpapst.com\/de\/de\/industries\/ventilation\/vertical-farming.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ebmpapst.com\/de\/de\/industries\/ventilation\/vertical-farming.html\">The right product for every appli\u00adca\u00adtion.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Rudy van den Berg also refers to Artechno\u2019s cells as plant facto\u00adries: \u201cIt sounds very indus\u00adtrial, but more impor\u00adtantly it makes it clear that the entire process happens in one place,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPrefer\u00adably at a loca\u00adtion close to distri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion centers, from where the harvested plants can then be brought directly to the super\u00admar\u00adkets. In terms of logis\u00adtics, you save a lot of time and mileage compared to a field harvest.\u201d According to Artechno, almost all crops are suit\u00adable for vertical culti\u00adva\u00adtion, espe\u00adcially lettuce, herbs, seedlings and berries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe land or region where the cells will be located often deter\u00admines what is prof\u00aditable for the farmer. Perfect venti\u00adlation is crucial for growth \u2013 and it was moving air that brought the company into contact with ebm-papst. Rick van Oost\u00aderom, sales repre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive at ebm-papst Benelux, explains: \u201cIn October 2020, we made contact \u2013 we presented our range of motors and fans to Artechno. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It turned out that they were buying a ready-made venti\u00adlation unit and installing it in the cells. But they wanted to change that, so we worked together as part\u00adners and experts in our respec\u00adtive fields to find a new solu\u00adtion.\u201d ebm-papst Benelux offered an alter\u00adna\u00adtive fan that performed signif\u00adi\u00adcantly better than the previous solu\u00adtion, both in economic and ecolog\u00adical terms. Our first choice would have been the AxiEco, but as Artechno controls the air volume via a differ\u00aden\u00adtial pres\u00adsure measure\u00adment, the only option was a centrifugal fan.\u201d They opted for the new RadiPac C. \u201cIt was the perfect solu\u00adtion, both econom\u00adi\u00adcally and with regard to effi\u00adciency. It can keep the air quality in the green\u00adhouse at an optimum level,\u201d explains Rick van Oost\u00aderom. Thanks to its EC motor, the fan can contin\u00adu\u00adously adopt different oper\u00adating points and always works at an effi\u00adcient optimum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Radipac C was the perfect solu\u00adtion, both econom\u00adi\u00adcally and with regard to effi\u00adciency.<\/p>\n<cite>Rick van Oost\u00aderom, sales repre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive at ebm-papst Benelux<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the fans ensure a perfect air flow that allows the plants to grow opti\u00admally. Depending on the design, between 12 and 24 fans are installed in the Artechno cell. \u201cEvery crop needs a specific micro\u00adcli\u00admate,\u201d explains Rudy van den Berg. \u201cWe have to monitor this closely.
