For example the ques\u00adtion of how the employees get to work. But the resourceful company in Hohen\u00adlohe has a solu\u00adtion for every problem. To help recruit staff in this rural area, ebm-papst set up a shuttle bus service in 1963, initially using the company\u2019s own minibuses. That meant that the distances between the company\u2019s base at Mulfingen and the scat\u00adtered villages of the district were no longer a problem, even for those who did not have their own vehicle \u2013 which was common\u00adplace back then. In 1975, the first factory-owned bus started service. At peak times, the fleet was expanded to eight company-owned buses. A service that was started as a small thing is a perma\u00adnent fixture for many today.<\/p>\n<h2>528,000 kilo\u00adme\u00adtres<\/h2>\n<p>The twelve buses drive an average of more than half a million kilo\u00adme\u00adtres around the district. At 128 bus stops within a radius of 25 kilo\u00adme\u00adtres from Mulfingen, they pick up a total of around 1,200 ebm-papst employees working in three-shift oper\u00ada\u00adtions, and take them safely and cost-effec\u00adtively to work. Nobody has far to walk, for the bus stops are all just two and a half kilo\u00adme\u00adtres from one another. To keep the shuttle bus service afford\u00adable, ebm-papst works with subcon\u00adtrac\u00adtors and the local public trans\u00adport oper\u00ada\u00adtors in three districts.<\/p>\n<h2>Knowing how to help your\u00adself<\/h2>\n<p>25 years ago, Karl Hofmann, a bus driver in the very first days, picked up his passen\u00adgers in a 39-seater. The bus was oper\u00adated consec\u00adu\u00adtively on two routes: Schrozberg and Krautheim \u2013 and the passen\u00adgers were predom\u00adi\u00adnantly female. \u201cThe personal contact was the nicest part,\u201d remem\u00adbers Karl Hofmann. The trav\u00adel\u00adling commu\u00adnity was always relaxed, espe\u00adcially in the winter, when it was diffi\u00adcult to get to Mulfingen on time. \u201cIn those days, nobody had a mobile phone. If we got stuck in snow, or if we couldn\u2019t get any further because of icy condi\u00adtions, we had to send some\u00adbody home to let the company know. And once, every\u00adbody got out and skated on. Some of them in their stocking feet. Busi\u00adness is skil\u00adfully combined with the plea\u00adsure. Maximum capacity util\u00adi\u00adsa\u00adtion for the good of social commit\u00adment to the region. For example, the shuttle service is also used for the regional \u201cYouth research\u201d compe\u00adti\u00adtion, for excur\u00adsions for local clubs and asso\u00adci\u00ada\u00adtions, for children\u2019s holiday activ\u00adi\u00adties and of course at the ebm-papst marathon.
