\u201cThe pandemic perma\u00adnently changed sales work. I am not even here very often anymore,\u201d says Rudi Wein\u00admann. \u201cWe use video calls to discuss a lot of things.\u201d By \u201chere\u201d he means Walter Roller GmbH in Gerlingen. By \u201cwe\u201d he means Wolf\u00adgang Krenn, Managing Director of Roller, Ingo Raisch, Head of Devel\u00adop\u00adment and Exper\u00adi\u00adments, and, of course, Wein\u00admann, Head of Sales at ebm-papst for the Stuttgart region. Both compa\u00adnies have been working together for around 25 years. While video calls, ushered in by the pandemic, have facil\u00adi\u00adtated commu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtion, it is clear to all three of them that on-site visits are some\u00adthing that cannot be replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest evidence for that is the V-Cooler project. The smallest evap\u00ado\u00adrator series from Roller that is very popular as well, cools drinks and meals in all types of refrig\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion units and bar coun\u00adters. It has been part of the company\u2019s range since the 1980s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a busi\u00adness trip to Roller for another project, the three took a walk around the produc\u00adtion area. The shaded-pole motor that drove the fan in this evap\u00ado\u00adrator series attracted Weinmann\u2019s atten\u00adtion: with a 10 percent effi\u00adciency level, it was not really state of the art anymore. Yet, Roller is a pioneer in using highly effi\u00adcient EC tech\u00adnology in its air coolers.<\/p>\n\n\n

Despite Flow\u00adGrid as an addi\u00adtional compo\u00adnent, the new V-Cooler is even narrower than the previous model.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\u201cFrom then on, Rudi worked on us for a rela\u00adtively long time to imple\u00adment an effi\u00adcient fan for this project as well,\u201d Wolf\u00adgang Krenn describes what happened. However, the fact that there is strong compe\u00adti\u00adtion on the market for this type of evap\u00ado\u00adrator with providers offering cheap prices, was an argu\u00adment against a quick change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese are mass-produced goods,\u201d Krenn explains. \u201cWhen a part like that fails, it is replaced with a new one in no time at all. Users look very closely at the price.\u201d However, in a special appli\u00adca\u00adtion, the old shaded-pole motor reached its limits one day and kept failing. \u201cThen we said: let\u2019s move to EC.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Space is an impor\u00adtant issue in refrig\u00ader\u00adated units: if the air cooler is large, there may be fewer rows avail\u00adable for drinks bottles. There\u00adfore, the evap\u00ado\u00adrator needs to be extremely compact and the instal\u00adla\u00adtion space avail\u00adable in the narrow cooler is corre\u00adspond\u00adingly small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet there are still strin\u00adgent require\u00adments. Firstly, the air that flows over the chilled goods is drawn into the fan with a 90-degree deflec\u00adtion. Secondly, evap\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtors in the catering sector come into contact with corro\u00adsive substances, such as vinegar and cleaning agents, so they require resis\u00adtant compo\u00adnents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
