The photo\u00advoltaic panels installed in the devel\u00adop\u00adment generate more than one million kilo\u00adwatt hours of elec\u00adtrical power per year. As a result, the system saves almost 1,000 metric tons of CO<sub>2<\/sub> per year compared to coal power gener\u00ada\u00adtion. Low-energy tech\u00adnology for carbon neutrality. In addi\u00adtion to facto\u00adries and office build\u00adings, the Holiday Campus is located in the climate-neutral indus\u00adtrial park. The building has many uses, including as a hotel for corpo\u00adrate guests and, in line with Menred\u2019s mission \u2013 inno\u00adva\u00adtion for carbon neutrality in build\u00adings \u2013 it is a ultra-low energy building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Build\u00adings like this are an impor\u00adtant step towards carbon neutrality: They consume almost no energy and emit very small amounts of CO<sub>2<\/sub> during their life\u00adtime. Partic\u00adu\u00adlarly econom\u00adical tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies such as heat pumps and air handling units with heat recovery are there\u00adfore used for heating, cooling and venti\u00adlation. The little energy required is ideally gener\u00adated by the building itself, for example using solar heating for hot water and photo\u00advoltaics on the roof. The building houses many different areas under one roof: rooms for guests, lounges and meeting rooms, a play\u00adroom and adven\u00adture room for chil\u00addren. Each room has different climate and venti\u00adlation require\u00adments, but must offer comfort and a pleasant envi\u00adron\u00adment for users at all times. How can this be recon\u00adciled with the ultra-low-energy stan\u00addard? Where can the most energy and CO<sub>2<\/sub> be saved? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From previous building expe\u00adri\u00adence, the plan\u00adning team knew that venti\u00adlation and air-condi\u00adtioning systems in their region account for the largest share of energy require\u00adments, at around 70 percent \u2013 so the poten\u00adtial for savings was partic\u00adu\u00adlarly high. On the other hand, the site was very dynamic: a changing number of hotel guests, at some\u00adtimes a fully occu\u00adpied play\u00adroom with chil\u00addren romping around or an impor\u00adtant busi\u00adness meeting with customers. (Photo | Una Zhu)<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mix of fans for effi\u00adciency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan\u00adning team made a deci\u00adsion: A total of 13 fans, including several different models, were to be used in the Holiday Campus \u2013 hand-picked to best suit each floor or room. Three aspects were crucial to Menred in the selec\u00adtion process: energy savings, comfort for resi\u00addents (meaning a minimum noise level), and the possi\u00adbility of adjusting the fan speed as needed. The fans had to be control\u00adlable because the Holiday Campus has a smart building manage\u00adment system, a MiBEE smart home system that coor\u00addi\u00adnates systems such as air condi\u00adtioning, venti\u00adlation and under\u00adfloor heating in real time. Sensors measure the CO<sub>2<\/sub> and mois\u00adture content in the air, among other things. Based on these measure\u00adments, the systems ensure optimum air quality to guar\u00adantee the health and well-being of the people in the rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The music room on the second floor, for example, is usually very busy, which is why Menred installed a ceiling venti\u00adlation system there with connected temper\u00ada\u00adture control. Depending on the number of people in the room, the system cools or heats it accord\u00adingly. The system contains four centrifugal blowers that draw in and distribute air effi\u00adciently and with minimal noise. CO<sub>2<\/sub>-neutral building<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On the third floor of the Holiday Campus, Menred installed an inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive solu\u00adtion: an inte\u00adgrated heat pump envi\u00adron\u00adment control unit, or \u201cIEU,\u201d that combines air condi\u00adtioning, purifi\u00adca\u00adtion and dehu\u00admid\u00adi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion in a single device. Inside, there are two centrifugal blowers and one forward-curved motor-impeller per unit. \u201cThe combi\u00adna\u00adtion of these fans results in energy recovery at 70 percent in cooling mode and 78 percent in heating mode. This exceeds the tech\u00adnical stan\u00addards for ultra-low energy build\u00adings and is a new, envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtally friendly solu\u00adtion for resi\u00adden\u00adtial build\u00adings,\u201d explains Chen Wei.
