Although the compressor requires the largest amount of energy of the indi\u00advidual compo\u00adnents, the fans should also be scru\u00adti\u00adnized care\u00adfully when consid\u00adering effi\u00adciency. Various aero\u00addy\u00adnamic adjust\u00adments, such as an inte\u00adgrated diffuser and winglets, can further increase effi\u00adciency while simul\u00adta\u00adne\u00adously reducing noise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the high effi\u00adcien\u00adcies, the use of state-of-the-art EC tech\u00adnology in the fan\u2019s motor has become a no-brainer, and also allows great flex\u00adi\u00adbility thanks to indi\u00advidual speed adjust\u00adment. Devel\u00adop\u00adment is contin\u00aduing at a steady pace. (Graphic | ebm-papst)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Both are suit\u00adable for use with natural and flam\u00admable refrig\u00ader\u00adants and are partic\u00adu\u00adlarly quiet thanks to their special design, which helps prevent the heat pumps from becoming a disrup\u00adtive factor and allows them to blend in well with their surround\u00adings. While the AxiEco plug-in is suit\u00adable for heat pumps requiring a large pres\u00adsure reserve for the evap\u00ado\u00adrator, the AxiTone is geared more towards deliv\u00adering higher air flow at low back pres\u00adsure when the heat pump design requires this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Axial fan with high pres\u00adsure reserve<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ice forma\u00adtion partic\u00adu\u00adlarly affects evap\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtors when humidity precip\u00adi\u00adtates as ice on the heat exchanger at cold ambient temper\u00ada\u00adtures. This reduces the air routes and the drag, and so too the back pres\u00adsure. The fans then have to offer signif\u00adi\u00adcantly greater pres\u00adsure reserves. This is where the new AxiEco Plug-in comes in (Fig. 2). Studies have shown that its flow tech\u00adnology reduces ice forma\u00adtion and its air flow only reduces very slightly as the pres\u00adsure increases. (Graphic | ebm-papst)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The fan, which is avail\u00adable from summer 2023 in sizes 450, 500 and 630, typical of heat pumps for single- or two-family homes, has also been fitted with an air inlet grille. This Flow\u00adGrid, which acts as a recti\u00adfier for air flow, dras\u00adti\u00adcally reduces noise-gener\u00adating distur\u00adbances in the air flow. This reduces the sound pres\u00adsure over the entire frequency range, in partic\u00adular the disrup\u00adtive blade passing noise, i.e. unpleasant \u201chumming\u201d in the low frequency range (Fig. 3). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, the air inlet grille serves as a motor suspen\u00adsion and, if neces\u00adsary, the equip\u00adment manu\u00adfac\u00adturer can insert heating tape. The new axial fan weighs 30% less than the compa\u00adrable HyBlade version with steel wall ring. This means that less weight has to be handled during the instal\u00adla\u00adtion and the compact dimen\u00adsions often make it possible to opti\u00admize the design of the end device. The AxiEco Plug-in fans are supplied as a ready-to-install plug &amp; play solu\u00adtion, including nozzle plate and Flow\u00adGrid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quiet fan with three blades<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For air\/water heat pumps, where high back pres\u00adsure tends to be the excep\u00adtion due to their design, the three-blade AxiTone \u2013 initially avail\u00adable in size 450 mm and later in sizes 500 and 630 mm (Fig. 4) \u2013 is the obvious choice. Its char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adistic curve is flatter, it supplies large volumes of air, and, as the name suggests, it makes very little noise during oper\u00ada\u00adtion (Fig. 5). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The blade geom\u00adetry plays a key role in both respects, as it has been opti\u00admized to aero\u00addy\u00adnamic criteria. They also have a posi\u00adtive effect on the noise char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adis\u00adtics, as they mini\u00admize the tonal compo\u00adnents of noise. Condensers in resi\u00adden\u00adtial areas, where partic\u00adular atten\u00adtion must be paid to minimum noise emis\u00adsions, there\u00adfore also benefit from this quiet axial fan. The AxiTone is avail\u00adable as a ready-to-install motor-impeller combi\u00adna\u00adtion in both airflow direc\u00adtions, i.e., intake or blowing, and option\u00adally with a guard grill and support ring. It is also suit\u00adable for appli\u00adca\u00adtions with flam\u00admable refrig\u00ader\u00adants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inverter elec\u00adtronics for effi\u00adcient and low-noise compressor drives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mean\u00adwhile, ebm-papst is not only focusing on offering effi\u00adcient and quiet fans. Based on many years of expe\u00adri\u00adence with EC motors, their commu\u00adta\u00adtion elec\u00adtronics, and heat pump appli\u00adca\u00adtions, the company has now devel\u00adoped inverter elec\u00adtronics that are suit\u00adable, among other things, for speed-controlled perma\u00adnent magnet synchro\u00adnous machines (PSM), as typi\u00adcally used in compres\u00adsors (Fig. 6). The new elec\u00adtronics, the samples of which will be avail\u00adable from Q3\/2023 and which will be avail\u00adable with output powers of up to 3.5 kW, 7.5 kW and 12 kW, offer several advan\u00adtages here.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-article-450\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ebmpapst-7237.kxcdn.com\/de\/files\/2023\/07\/ebm-papst_waermepumpe_inverter-elektroniken_produkt-450x383.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-28750\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fig. 6: Inverter elec\u00adtronics in output powers 3.5 kW and 12 kW for effi\u00adcient and low-noise compressor drives. (Photo | ebm-papst)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The ebm-papst commu\u00adta\u00adtion method, which has been opti\u00admized over decades, consid\u00ader\u00adably reduces noise devel\u00adop\u00adment; at the same time, effi\u00adciency is increased. For example, in a heat pump with a 7.5 kW compressor drive, the COP value (Coef\u00adfi\u00adcient of Perfor\u00admance) could be increased by 3.5 %. For users, this means an annual saving of 70 euros at an assumed elec\u00adtricity price of 35 cents per kilo\u00adwatt hour. Depending on the variant, the controls also \u201cdetect\u201d whether they are oper\u00adated in one or three phases, and switch over auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcally depending on the type of voltage avail\u00adable in the heat pump. The elec\u00adtronics are also flex\u00adible in terms of their cooling. Thanks to their modular design, it is possible to use water or air cooling, or use a cold plate for cooling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The active three-phase PFC level inte\u00adgrated into the inverter elec\u00adtronics (power factor correc\u00adtion filter) ensures good EMC prop\u00ader\u00adties. No addi\u00adtional measures are required to comply with the stan\u00addards with regard to current harmonics. Given that, depending on the size of the heat pump, conven\u00adtional expan\u00adsion valve assem\u00adblies can easily weigh up to 20 kg, the weight saving and the reduced wiring effort required by active PFC are consid\u00ader\u00adable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The low weight of the heat pump simpli\u00adfies its entire handling, from produc\u00adtion to trans\u00adport and instal\u00adla\u00adtion by the end user. As a compe\u00adtent partner for heat pump manu\u00adfac\u00adturers, ebm-papst is already plan\u00adning the next steps to become a system provider.
