However, in recent months, he has been working hard on another topic, one that is close to his heart: Modern\u00adizing the ware\u00adhouse cooling system in the logis\u00adtics center to make it more energy effi\u00adcient. \u201cIt has been in oper\u00ada\u00adtion for more than 20 years. Aside from that, the entire system was simply no longer up to date,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is also due to the fact that, until a few years ago, in addi\u00adtion to dairy prod\u00aducts, meat, eggs and vegeta\u00adbles were stored and picked at the logis\u00adtics site in Suhr. \u201cColder ambient temper\u00ada\u00adtures are required for these prod\u00aducts. As a result, the cooling capacity of the fans was primarily designed for this,\u201d says K\u00fcnzli. Based on its sustain\u00adability model and a net zero reduc\u00adtion path, Emmi has set ambi\u00adtious and scien\u00adtif\u00adi\u00adcally supported targets for reducing green\u00adhouse gas emis\u00adsions. By 2027, it wants to reduce its own emis\u00adsions (Scopes 1 and 2) by 60 percent. He metic\u00adu\u00adlously refined his list of installed fan types, performed consump\u00adtion measure\u00adments, compared perfor\u00admance classes and volume flow rates and looked for part\u00adners to retrofit cooling units with energy effi\u00adciency. \u201cI wanted state-of-the-art fans to be installed in existing devices,\u201d he says. \u201cThe ceiling coolers are very robust and have few wearing parts. It is simply not sustain\u00adable to throw them away.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But most of the refrig\u00ader\u00adator manu\u00adfac\u00adturers he asked recom\u00admended exactly this approach. When K\u00fcnzli attended a seminar by ebm-papst in 2020, he was enthu\u00adsi\u00adastic about the perfor\u00admance of modern EC fans, and also by the commit\u00adment of the employees at the ebm-papst subsidiary in Switzer\u00adland. \u201cThey helped me with my project right from the start. (Photo | ebm-papst)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>As the retrofit was going to be performed during oper\u00ada\u00adtion, Matthias K\u00fcnzli left nothing to chance during the prelim\u00adi\u00adnary plan\u00adning. Together with his deputy Arber Gashi, he disas\u00adsem\u00adbled one of every cooler type and equipped it with a fan from ebm-papst. \u201cIt was impor\u00adtant that the cooling units were quickly ready for use again. The aim was also to deter\u00admine which brackets were neces\u00adsary to attach the new fans to the existing ceiling cooler. I had them made in advance,\u201d says K\u00fcnzli. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It all started at the begin\u00adning of 2023: Nine coolers were each equipped with three AxiEco axial fans with guard grills for short nozzles. And 27 others, each with three HyBlade axial fans. Both versions make a great impres\u00adsion, not only with their low energy require\u00adments, but also with their shallow instal\u00adla\u00adtion depth, low noise level and excel\u00adlent effi\u00adciency. In fact, most fans give us more than 80 percent. Thanks to the fans\u2019 effi\u00adciency, the 50 percent savings \u2013 and up to 30 more \u2013 mean that we have been able to gener\u00adally reduce the fan power.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it is not just the numbers that have inspired K\u00fcnzli. \u201cThe new fans hardly make a sound. I had to take a look at the visu\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion to see if they were actu\u00adally running,\u201d he says with a smile. \u201cAt the logis\u00adtics center, we have a loud\u00adspeaker system that plays back\u00adground music and messages during working hours. It can now finally be heard really well. That is good news for our employees.\u201d After the retrofit, it has also been more pleasant for them, K\u00fcnzli adds: \u201cBefore, we distrib\u00aduted the cooled air via textile hoses in the hall. It was time-consuming and gener\u00adated an air draft. But now the employees almost no longer feel it. We may consider removing the textile hoses completely in some areas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>ebm-papst promised us energy savings of around 50 percent.
