This is the pres\u00adsure required to move air through the system. The total pres\u00adsure comprises both the static pres\u00adsure and the dynamic pres\u00adsure gener\u00adated by the air move\u00adment. If you base the system on the total pres\u00adsure, you may conclude that axial fans have a higher output than centrifugal fans. However, this is not the case if the fans are connected to a duct system. In this case, when designing based on static pres\u00adsure, the centrifugal fan is usually the best choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The static pres\u00adsure also relates directly to specific energy consump\u00adtion. That is why it is also the right para\u00admeter to use when choosing the fan that will give you optimum energy savings. This is because, once again, the axial fan seems to have a higher effi\u00adciency level than the centrifugal fan, measured by the total pres\u00adsure. However, the centrifugal fan uses less elec\u00adtrical power to achieve the same or an even better result. To assess how much energy is actu\u00adally consumed to achieve the desired result, it is there\u00adfore always best to use the static effi\u00adciency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Total pres\u00adsure can lead to inac\u00adcu\u00adra\u00adcies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Measuring the static pres\u00adsure is also a rela\u00adtively simple and straight\u00adfor\u00adward process that can be performed using a variety of instru\u00adments. However, the total pres\u00adsure is more diffi\u00adcult to measure, as the flow rate is measured. In a fan or duct system, finding a measuring point that is not influ\u00adenced by local speed differ\u00adences and turbu\u00adlence, for example, is diffi\u00adcult, leading to inac\u00adcu\u00adra\u00adcies in the measure\u00adment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It often takes a lot of expe\u00adri\u00adence to correctly inter\u00adpret measure\u00adments containing the dynamic pres\u00adsure. The situ\u00ada\u00adtion is different in a measure\u00adment labo\u00adra\u00adtory that eval\u00adu\u00adates fan data, but ulti\u00admately it comes down to how energy effi\u00adcient the fan is where it is actu\u00adally being used. (Photo: ebm-papst)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Many fan manu\u00adfac\u00adturers indi\u00adcate the perfor\u00admance of their prod\u00aducts using static pres\u00adsure, making it easier to compare different models and select the right fan for a partic\u00adular system and appli\u00adca\u00adtion. Some manu\u00adfac\u00adturers use the overall pres\u00adsure to adver\u00adtise their prod\u00aducts so that they can indi\u00adcate suppos\u00adedly better values. For example, if an axial fan with an effi\u00adciency level of over 90 percent is adver\u00adtised compared to a 60 percent centrifugal fan, this discrep\u00adancy may be based on different basic prin\u00adci\u00adples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this case, the effi\u00adciency of the axial fan relates only to the effi\u00adciency of the fan impeller based on the total pres\u00adsure, compared to a complete centrifugal fan, including motor and control, based on static pres\u00adsure. Compar\u00adisons are also made between two complete fan systems, with the axial based on the total pres\u00adsure and centrifugal based on static pres\u00adsure. The axial system is given here with a 20 percent higher effi\u00adciency level. The differ\u00adence between the effi\u00adciency levels of the two fans is not objec\u00adtive, but rather a marketing method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Some manu\u00adfac\u00adturers use the overall pres\u00adsure to adver\u00adtise their prod\u00aducts so that they can indi\u00adcate suppos\u00adedly better values.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Axial fans can operate at the same effi\u00adciency levels as centrifugal fans. However, it is clear that the labo\u00adra\u00adtory data for axial fans is often diffi\u00adcult to repro\u00adduce in prac\u00adtice, as they are more sensi\u00adtive to distur\u00adbances in the instal\u00adla\u00adtion space than centrifugal fans. This can result, for example, in effi\u00adciency losses when converting existing venti\u00adlation systems to new energy-saving axial fans. Here, centrifugal fans are less sensi\u00adtive and can repro\u00adduce the data ascer\u00adtained in the labo\u00adra\u00adtory more effec\u00adtively, even in real-life oper\u00ada\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Static pres\u00adsure is the more suit\u00adable measure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In summary, although the total pres\u00adsure is an impor\u00adtant measure of flow dynamics, the static pres\u00adsure is the more suit\u00adable measure for analyzing and comparing fan systems.
