This is what the managers at ebm-papst\u2019s logis\u00adtics center in Hollen\u00adbach asked them\u00adselves. Every day, the fork\u00adlift drivers there were making dozens of trips to take boxes from a pack\u00adaging line to the delivery points 30 meters away. This was a repet\u00adi\u00adtive task that also tied up a lot of personnel. \u201cWe wanted to make the processes more effi\u00adcient and relieve the burden on our team,\u201d says Markus Zink, Project Manager of the auto\u00admated guided vehicle (AGV) system at ebm-papst. \u201cAfter all, it\u2019s diffi\u00adcult to find skilled workers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The logis\u00adtics managers were looking for a solu\u00adtion and, together with Linde Mate\u00adrial Handling, planned an AGV system in which three auto\u00admated Linde high-lift trucks initially brought the boxes from a pack\u00adaging line directly connected to produc\u00adtion to the indi\u00advidual delivery points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The result was impres\u00adsive: instead of the 36 trans\u00adport oper\u00ada\u00adtions planned, the auto\u00admated guided trans\u00adport vehi\u00adcles managed up to 50 trans\u00adport oper\u00ada\u00adtions per hour. As Zink explains: \u201cWe then expanded the system to include addi\u00adtional source\/drain rela\u00adtion\u00adships, i.e. the route from the starting point to the desti\u00adna\u00adtion. We were able to use existing stable processes in the ship\u00adping center, as well as our SAP-EWM inter\u00adface, making it possible to operate the vehi\u00adcles completely autonomously. Around 100 trucks leave the company every day at the 30 goods issue ramps.<br>Around 2,500 pallets are shipped every day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">12 auto\u00admated trans\u00adport vehi\u00adcles in use<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The effort was worth it. A total of twelve AGVs now shuttle back and forth between three pack\u00adaging lines, the consol\u00adi\u00adda\u00adtion area, the special pallet ware\u00adhouse, and outgoing goods. They have their work cut out for them, trans\u00adporting between 1,400 and 1,500 parcels a day: \u200aup to 100 per hour. \u201cAnd that\u2019s with almost 100 percent avail\u00adability,\u201d says Zink with satis\u00adfac\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A lot of traffic in the logis\u00adtics center<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A sophis\u00adti\u00adcated safety system keeps things running smoothly between all those involved. When the vehi\u00adcles are in motion, they project two red signal strips to the side as well as an addi\u00adtional warning icon on the floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After some initial skep\u00adti\u00adcism, employees at the Hollen\u00adbach logis\u00adtics center have inte\u00adgrated the auto\u00admated trans\u00adport vehi\u00adcles into their daily work routine. And since real team members need their own names, they were also chris\u00adtened right away.
