Many of them come from South Korea. This is where the world\u2019s second-largest battery manu\u00adfac\u00adturer, LG Energy Solu\u00adtion, has its head\u00adquar\u00adters. The company\u2019s energy storage systems can be found in all areas of life: in IT prod\u00aducts, mobile house\u00adhold appli\u00adances, elec\u00adtric vehi\u00adcles and ships, and even drones. Since it opened in 2004, cooling towers with AC fans have kept the factory halls at comfort\u00adable temper\u00ada\u00adtures. However, a lot has happened in fan tech\u00adnology in the last 20 years. Fans with AC motors are now consid\u00adered power guzzlers. (Illus\u00adtra\u00adtion | Timo M\u00fcller)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the battery manu\u00adfac\u00adturer, it was there\u00adfore clear that a retrofit was needed and that the old AC fans should be replaced with new EC models. LG Energy Solu\u00adtion wanted to be able to adjust the new fans using an external speed controller and to direct them via the Modbus commu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtion protocol. The fans also needed to be protected from rain and have suffi\u00adcient power to generate the required air flow in the cooling towers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"clear:none\">EC power concen\u00adtrated over a hundred times<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur AxiBlade EC axial fan was a perfect fit for these require\u00adments,\u201d explains Seung-Hyun Lee, Senior Manager Sales for Refrig\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion and Air Venti\u00adlation at ebm-papst South Korea. \u201cWe were also able to deliver quickly and in suit\u00adable quan\u00adti\u00adties.\u201d That\u2019s why LG Energy Solu\u00adtion opted for this solu\u00adtion. \u201cIn 2022, we started the retrofit project together with cooling tower manu\u00adfac\u00adturer YM Tech and installed a total of 36 units. That\u2019s six units per cooling tower,\u201d Lee continues. \u201cBy June of this year, another 72 fans will follow for the remaining twelve cooling towers. Then we will have imple\u00admented a total of 108 AxiBlades.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This high number of fans saves the battery manu\u00adfac\u00adturer a lot of elec\u00adtricity and conse\u00adquently costs. All the fans can be controlled indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adally and regu\u00adlated as required. What\u2019s more, the fans are more reli\u00adable when run as a combined unit because they can compen\u00adsate for the failure of indi\u00advidual fans.
