And things had to be done quickly, as there was a lot of demand among students. In a short space of time, the prefab\u00adri\u00adcated modules resulted in 316 two-floor lodges, grouped by 20 indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adally designed farms. In 1981 \u201cDjingis Khan\u201d was trans\u00adformed into a resi\u00adden\u00adtial housing asso\u00adci\u00ada\u00adtion within HSB, a coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtive company focused on facility manage\u00adment. Self or joint venti\u00adlation used to be imple\u00admented. The pres\u00adsure differ\u00adence between the inside and outside auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcally ensures a certain amount of air exchange, but it was not satis\u00adfac\u00adtory. Aiming to improve the venti\u00adlation and thus the climate inside the build\u00adings, the people in charge discussed installing a mechan\u00adical venti\u00adlation system back in the 1990s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe wanted energy-effi\u00adcient, quiet fans. That\u2019s why the choice fell on EC fans from ebm-papst.\u201d<cite>Anders Nilsson<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Addi\u00adtional insu\u00adla\u00adtion has also been applied and energy-saving improve\u00adments have been made to the crawl spaces. In 2017, HSB finally equipped ten apart\u00adments with systems for mechan\u00adical exhaust air and pres\u00adsure-controlled venti\u00adlation. AC fans were initially used. However, these required addi\u00adtional noise insu\u00adla\u00adtion because the noise level was too high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EC a must!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nilsson super\u00advised the process over the years. He is the owner of VFS Ventser\u00advice in Lund and is respon\u00adsible for plan\u00adning and imple\u00admenting the venti\u00adlation system for \u201cDjingis Khan\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-26803 size-article-450\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ebmpapst-7237.kxcdn.com\/de\/files\/2023\/01\/dschingis_khan_ebm-papst_siedlung_lueftung-anders-nilsson-2-450x800.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-26803\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u201cDschingis Khan\u201d was the largest order to date for Anders Nilsson, who installed all 316 fans by himself. (Photo | ebm-papst)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Nilsson recalls, \u201cWhen we carried out the tests with the AC fans, the focus was exclu\u00adsively on improving the venti\u00adlation system. But since then, there is also greater demand for energy effi\u00adciency and fans that are as quiet as possible.\u201dIn a nutshell, AC fans are too loud for today\u2019s stan\u00addards and consume too much elec\u00adtricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nilsson researched alter\u00adna\u00adtives and found what he was looking for: \u201cWhen ebm-papst devel\u00adoped its new series of sound-insu\u00adlated roof fans with an energy-effi\u00adcient EC motor and a temper\u00ada\u00adture and pres\u00adsure control option, the deci\u00adsion was easy,\u201d he says. The people in charge at HSB were also impressed by the new tech\u00adnology and Nilsson got started with the detailed plan\u00adning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together with ebm-papst sales engi\u00adneer Jan S\u00f6rensen, he set about selecting the compo\u00adnents. They chose the MXRC22R roof fan model. S\u00f6rensen explains, \u201cWe develop and produce the MXRC series here in Sweden. It satis\u00adfies all the require\u00adments currently being placed on roof fans: The sound insu\u00adla\u00adtion ensures a low noise level, and they have high effi\u00adciency levels and inte\u00adgrated control elec\u00adtronics. What\u2019s more, they are energy effi\u00adcient.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Light fans are used on the roofs of \u201cDjingis Khan\u201d. They weigh 13 kilo\u00adgrams, have an output of 85 watts and reach a free-air flow rate of 936 m3\/h. The MXRC22R fans are deliv\u00adered with a control system with Modbus RTU. This enables a wide range of program\u00adming options for effec\u00adtive and demand-based venti\u00adlation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assembly made easy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00f6rensen reit\u00ader\u00adates, \u201cThe fans make work much easier for installers. For example, the control connec\u00adtion is housed in a sepa\u00adrate box on the inside of the fan housing. After all, he was the one to install the 316 fans. For him as a small busi\u00adnessman, it was a Herculean task, which he set himself alone \u2013 in close coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion with an elec\u00adtrical tech\u00adni\u00adcian and a construc\u00adtion company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"box box-right\">\n<h3>WHAT THE TECH?! I completed the work in autumn 2021, but I started it a few years before. We decided to install 100 fans per year, and I had the option of plan\u00adning the work during the summer months, which of course was a major advan\u00adtage. This is because installing roof fans in winter can be diffi\u00adcult!\u201d The ebm-papst fans being easy to assemble ensured smooth oper\u00ada\u00adtion and every\u00adthing went as planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resi\u00addents of the estate and the housing asso\u00adci\u00ada\u00adtion are also satis\u00adfied with Nilsson\u2019s work. They are partic\u00adu\u00adlarly pleased that the fans have a low noise level and that their homes have reli\u00adable venti\u00adlation. Thanks to their higher effi\u00adciency and intel\u00adli\u00adgent control, the fans consume less power. They are set for a need-based venti\u00adlation that saves energy, since they reduce the flow to the needed level. Overall, the \u201cDjingis Kahn\u201d resi\u00adden\u00adtial estate achieves energy savings of 30 percent per year compared to the previous instal\u00adla\u00adtion using AC fans.
