Charging stations and termi\u00adnals of various sizes and capac\u00adi\u00adties are the inter\u00adface to the vehi\u00adcles, i.e. cars, trucks and buses, and are often combined with battery storage systems to compen\u00adsate for fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions and stabi\u00adlize the grid (Fig. 1). As the interest in elec\u00adtric vehi\u00adcles steadily increases, the avail\u00adability of quick-charge stations is a chal\u00adlenge. To reduce charging time, the charging connec\u00adtion power must be increased to several hundred kilo\u00adwatts depending on the appli\u00adca\u00adtion. As a result, the thermal load on the elec\u00adtrical compo\u00adnents in the systems increases signif\u00adi\u00adcantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading no-clear\">Effi\u00adcient heat dissi\u00adpa\u00adtion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To effi\u00adciently dissi\u00adpate the heat loss and enable fast charging, controlled thermal manage\u00adment incor\u00adpo\u00adrating different cooling solu\u00adtions is required. The motor and fan special\u00adists at ebm-papst have taken a close look at this issue and can now offer suit\u00adable solu\u00adtions for the various cooling solu\u00adtions related to elec\u00adtric mobility. (Photo | Adobe\u00adStock 267275166) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fans for every appli\u00adca\u00adtion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The inte\u00adrior of a quick-charge station, its power elec\u00adtronics and cooling circuits are usually cooled with air (Fig. 3). Several fans are gener\u00adally used for this, with axial, centrifugal, and diag\u00adonal compact fans as possible options, depending on the require\u00adments. They operate at high effi\u00adciency levels, thereby making an active contri\u00adbu\u00adtion to saving resources. At the same time, their high effi\u00adciency keeps oper\u00adating costs low. Thanks to the motor tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies used and aero\u00addy\u00adnamic opti\u00admiza\u00adtions, the fans also run extremely quietly, which helps prevent the quick-charge stations from becoming a disrup\u00adtive factor and allows them to blend in well with their surround\u00adings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The drives\u2019 excel\u00adlent control char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adis\u00adtics ensure that demand-based oper\u00ada\u00adtion can be easily imple\u00admented. The high effi\u00adciency of the EC fans is main\u00adtained, espe\u00adcially in the partial load range \u2013 a clear advan\u00adtage over conven\u00adtional AC fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An impor\u00adtant factor for cooling in quick-charge stations is their outdoor suit\u00adability. Even under harsh ambient condi\u00adtions such as rain, fog, dust and salty sea air, temper\u00ada\u00adture fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions and other weather-related influ\u00adences, the reli\u00adable func\u00adtioning of the fans must be guar\u00adan\u00adteed. This is why they are subjected to rigorous testing by the manu\u00adfac\u00adturer. Shock, vibra\u00adtion and corro\u00adsion tests are manda\u00adtory, as are the Highly Accel\u00ader\u00adated Life (HAL) test, temper\u00ada\u00adture change control test, and EMC checks. (Graphic | ebm-papst)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Powerful cooling solu\u00adtions for quick-charge stations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>AxiEco and AxiForce series fans and have now been proven in a variety of elec\u00adtric mobility appli\u00adca\u00adtions. The AxiEco offers high perfor\u00admance and effi\u00adciency in a compact foot\u00adprint, allowing users to opti\u00admize the design of the final system. With a diam\u00adeter of 200 mm, this fan delivers an air flow rate of 1,820 m\u00b3\/h. (Fig. 5). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The speed can be adapted to the required cooling capacity via a PWM or analog signal, and this also allows oper\u00adating noise to be reduced to a minimum. They are avail\u00adable in sizes 80, 120 and 172 mm and achieve pres\u00adsures of up to 1,200&nbsp;Pa. These fans have a steep air perfor\u00admance curve such as is required for cooling in densely packed quick-charge stations. Despite the high back pres\u00adsures, air flow rates of up to 650 m\u00b3\/h can be achieved, which can mean a signif\u00adi\u00adcant increase in perfor\u00admance for the appli\u00adca\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is also a partic\u00adu\u00adlarly envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtally resis\u00adtant version with encap\u00adsu\u00adlated elec\u00adtronics that meets the require\u00adments of protec\u00adtion class IP68 \u2013 in other words, it is dust\u00adproof and protected against powerful water jets, and has also success\u00adfully completed a thirty-day salt spray test (Fig. 6). The fans are option\u00adally avail\u00adable with ATEX certi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion.
