It pays to convert to EC tech\u00adnology for other reasons as well. EC fans have infi\u00adnitely vari\u00adable speed control and operate at high effi\u00adcien\u00adcies even in partial-load oper\u00ada\u00adtion. They also offer networking options and, if appro\u00adpri\u00adately designed, can with\u00adstand even harsh ambient condi\u00adtions. These advan\u00adtages can now also be used with larger fans that deliver huge air flows. With its new DV280 (Fig. 1) ebm-papst has devel\u00adoped a new high-perfor\u00admance EC motor that, with an elec\u00adtrical input capacity of up to 20 kW shaft power and a torque of impres\u00adsive 180 Nm, is suit\u00adable for universal use on large fans world\u00adwide.<\/p>\n<p>The robust motor is designed for heavy wheel loads, oper\u00adates with the high effi\u00adciency of up to 95 percent that is typical of EC motors (better than IE5 in accor\u00addance with IEC\/TS 60034-30-2) and is there\u00adfore an energy-effi\u00adcient alter\u00adna\u00adtive to the powerful AC motors that are commonly used in this area of appli\u00adca\u00adtion (Fig. 2). (Graphic | ebm-papst)<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Fewer wearing parts, compact design and many func\u00adtions<\/h2>\n<p>As a direct drive, the EC motor offers many advan\u00adtages in prac\u00adtical use. For example, no wear-prone and high-main\u00adte\u00adnance belt trans\u00admis\u00adsions are neces\u00adsary. The fan impeller, which can be either centrifugal or axial, can be mounted directly on the robust stub shaft or motor rotor flange. As the complete control elec\u00adtronics (Fig. 3) are inte\u00adgrated in the motor, there is no need for external devices such as vari\u00adable frequency drives that have to be assem\u00adbled, wired and para\u00adme\u00adter\u00adized. The elec\u00adtronics of the EC motors can be replaced for possible main\u00adte\u00adnance work without having to disas\u00adsemble the motor or fan. For example, a vibra\u00adtion sensor is inte\u00adgrated, which enables auto\u00admatic reso\u00adnance detec\u00adtion and ulti\u00admately increases oper\u00ada\u00adtional reli\u00ada\u00adbility. This is because prema\u00adture fan fail\u00adures are usually caused by vibra\u00adtions due to the instal\u00adla\u00adtion situ\u00ada\u00adtion. To detect these, a test start-up is carried out during commis\u00adsioning in which the vibra\u00adtion level is recorded and analyzed over the entire speed curve. If exces\u00adsive vibra\u00adtion veloc\u00adi\u00adties are now detected in certain ranges, the control soft\u00adware in the elec\u00adtronics auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcally adjusts itself so that these speed ranges are \u201chidden\u201d during further oper\u00ada\u00adtion. This means that they are passed through, but there is no contin\u00aduous oper\u00ada\u00adtion in these ranges.<\/p>\n<div class=\"box box-middle\">\n<h4>Auto\u00admatic reso\u00adnance detec\u00adtion for more oper\u00ada\u00adtional reli\u00ada\u00adbility<\/h4>\n<p>Centrifugal fans are used in a wide range of appli\u00adca\u00adtions. Depending on the instal\u00adla\u00adtion situ\u00ada\u00adtion, reso\u00adnance can occur in unpre\u00addictable speed ranges. If the fan is often oper\u00adated in such crit\u00adical ranges, the drive motors\u2019 bearing system may be damaged, leading to fan failure. For system oper\u00ada\u00adtors, these vibra\u00adtions can be measured but are not easy to suppress. Oper\u00ada\u00adtors can manu\u00adally edit the soft\u00adware settings at any time and always have full control.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>If an imbal\u00adance occurs during oper\u00ada\u00adtion, for example due to cont\u00ada\u00adm\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtion, this is also detected and displayed at a suit\u00adable point so that appro\u00adpriate reme\u00addial measures can be initi\u00adated. Oper\u00ada\u00adtors can manu\u00adally edit the soft\u00adware settings at any time and always have full control. The motor\u2019s heat dissi\u00adpa\u00adtion has also been opti\u00admized. (Graphic | ebm-papst)<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Thanks to its external rotor design, the motor also has impres\u00adsively compact dimen\u00adsions. This means that the entire fan unit requires less space, making trans\u00adport and assembly of the complete plug &amp; play solu\u00adtion much easier. This is partic\u00adu\u00adlarly bene\u00adfi\u00adcial when ebm-papst combines the new motors with back\u00adward-curved centrifugal impellers (Fig. 6). These are attached directly to the outer rotor, with the motor immersed in the impeller.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the fan requires little space in the axial direc\u00adtion. Even large, size 800 RadiPac centrifugal fans that convey air at up to 40,000 m\u00b3\/h wide open and reach maximum pres\u00adsures of 2,300 Pa, fit through normal doors in retrofit projects, for example, and do not have to be deliv\u00adered by crane. The plug &amp; play fan systems arrive at the construc\u00adtion site with perfectly coor\u00addi\u00adnated motor, elec\u00adtronics and fan tech\u00adnology as fully assem\u00adbled, compact units \u2013 which makes handling and commis\u00adsioning child\u2019s play.<\/p>\n<p>The special blade geom\u00adetry of the RadiPac product range dras\u00adti\u00adcally reduces flow losses. The inlet ring made of galva\u00adnized sheet steel is designed for perfect inter\u00adac\u00adtion with the new impeller. The sophis\u00adti\u00adcated impeller geom\u00adetry not only reduces flow losses, but also noise gener\u00ada\u00adtion.
