When the main\u00adte\u00adnance staff for the air condi\u00adtioning at the site dropped by at the old supply fan as part of their routine checks, they were aston\u00adished: the massive fan, with a diam\u00adeter of over two meters, was damaged beyond repair. This was caused by vibra\u00adtions that broke the conveyor blades, so the approx\u00adi\u00admately thirty-year-old fan had finally been killed off.<\/p>\n

This was not discov\u00adered imme\u00addi\u00adately. \u201cThe system venti\u00adlates a rela\u00adtively small manu\u00adfac\u00adturing area as well as halls currently used as a ware\u00adhouse. During routine checks, we asked ourselves why it was so quiet, then we saw it: blade breakage, total damage that caused it to disas\u00adsemble itself,\u201d explains Jens Go\u00dfmann, respon\u00adsible for process opti\u00admiza\u00adtion at Cordenka.<\/p>\n

Strict require\u00adments, high-quality replace\u00adments<\/h2>\n

The company, which is head\u00adquar\u00adtered in Obern\u00adburg am Main, has been producing tech\u00adnical viscous fibers since the factory was founded in 1924 and is now the leading manu\u00adfac\u00adturer of tech\u00adnical rayon thread, which is predom\u00adi\u00adnantly used for car tires. For this reason, it is a matter of course that all machines, which are oper\u00adated by around 600 employees, are of an outstanding quality. A high-quality, long-term reli\u00adable replace\u00adment was there\u00adfore required for the defec\u00adtive fan. Since Cordenka had already worked with ebm-papst, Go\u00dfmann approached the company directly and was referred to HDS GmbH, who took care of the plan\u00adning process as a service partner of ebm-papst. Everyone started working together.<\/p>\n

A hundred-year-old factory building, a large axial fan, a small service door: \u201cThe fan could not be replaced like-for-like without labo\u00adrious building measures. We had to disas\u00adsemble it into indi\u00advidual parts to get it out in the first place.\u201d That is why Go\u00dfmann and HDS also planned for the tiny door when orga\u00adnizing the replace\u00adment \u2013 and decided on a fan wall. \u201cWith a modular design, you can create the same perfor\u00admance and also have greater flex\u00adi\u00adbility: many old fans are located in small cellars, in which they are often fixed into a wall,\u201d explains Jens Gerner, who led the project at HDS together with his colleague Jens Martin.<\/p>\n

Up until then, the old axial compact fan could only be switched \u2018on\u2019 or \u2018off\u2019. So that energy does not liter\u00adally vanish into thin air, we had already closed venti\u00adlation ducts that were not required in the ware\u00adhouse in some cases. From axial to centrifugal<\/h2>\n

The new modules have been in oper\u00ada\u00adtion for four months and run smoothly. And that is not all: they are infi\u00adnitely adjustable. <\/span><\/p>\n

If produc\u00adtion begins again in the ware\u00adhouse at a later time, the venti\u00adlation ducts will be opened again and the fans will be adjusted appro\u00adpri\u00adately. And if, contrary to expec\u00adta\u00adtions, a fan has a problem in the future, seven more fans will effort\u00adlessly pick up the slack it is repaired. At present, Cordenka is already testing how air quality can be improved using the fan wall.<\/p>\n

For the successful project, Cordenka was awarded BAFA Module 1 support for using effi\u00adcient cross-section tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies. In the future, further retro\u00adfits with EC centrifugal fans could also be planned. \u201cThese have the advan\u00adtage that they can be easily accom\u00admo\u00addated in rela\u00adtively small rooms and can be inte\u00adgrated into intel\u00adli\u00adgent control systems.
