There\u00adfore, heat pumps are becoming ever more popular in both new build\u00adings and reno\u00adva\u00adtions and are subsi\u00addized by funding in many cases. They are becoming an impor\u00adtant pillar in creating more sustain\u00adable heat gener\u00ada\u00adtion. Today more than half of new construc\u00adtion projects are equipped with this. Air-to-water heat pumps are widely used here due to their effi\u00adciency and their simple instal\u00adla\u00adtion and set-up. So in the long term, there is no way around the natural alter\u00adna\u00adtives. However, these are flam\u00admable in most cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reason for this is simple: a low GWP value requires a rapid decom\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adtion of the refrig\u00aderant when it enters the atmos\u00adphere. This can only be assured if it is chem\u00adi\u00adcally reac\u00adtive, but high reac\u00adtivity typi\u00adcally goes hand in hand with a high level of flam\u00adma\u00adbility. In prin\u00adciple, this can be achieved in various ways. One method, which is very time-consuming, is using restricted-breathing hous\u00adings that prevent elec\u00adtronics and flam\u00admable atmos\u00adpheres from coming into contact with one another. Another option is using an addi\u00adtional, smaller ATEX fan, which ensures reli\u00adable venti\u00adlation of the unit. However, this prin\u00adciple of contin\u00aduous venti\u00adlation is only rarely used, e.g. in chillers. Motor and fan specialist ebm-papst there\u00adfore offers an alter\u00adna\u00adtive specially designed for use in air-to-water heat pumps. For selected fan drives in sizes 55, 74 and 84, the elec\u00adtronics circuits have been modi\u00adfied to comply with EN 60335-2-40 for heat pumps with flam\u00admable refrig\u00ader\u00adants, i.e. the maximum surface temper\u00ada\u00adture must be at least 100 kelvin below the igni\u00adtion temper\u00ada\u00adture of the refrig\u00aderant used in the event of a fault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Propane, which is very well suited to new build\u00adings and building reno\u00adva\u00adtions due to its good heat transfer capacity and its low GWP value, has an igni\u00adtion temper\u00ada\u00adture of 470 \u00b0C. The elec\u00adtronic assem\u00adblies, which have been tested and certi\u00adfied accord\u00adingly, ensure that their maximum surface temper\u00ada\u00adture always remains below 370 \u00b0C, even if a fault occurs, and as a result they do not become an igni\u00adtion source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group mgznkr-elements mgznkr-box\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cFear has always trumped reason\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Read here why propane as a natural refrig\u00aderant offers advan\u00adtages for climate protec\u00adtion and effi\u00adciency, why safety concerns are unfounded \u2014 and why EC fans are SKADEC\u2019s tool of choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-custom-font-size wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/mag.ebmpapst.com\/en\/insights\/with-propane-as-natural-refrigerant-fear-has-always-trumped-reason_17346\/\" style=\"background-color:#0072bb;font-size:16px\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read the inter\u00adview <i class=\"mgznkr-icon fa fa-chevron-right fas\"><\/i><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The fans approved for use with A3 refrig\u00ader\u00adants in accor\u00addance with EN 60335-2-40 with maximum fill quan\u00adti\u00adties of up to 1 kg or 5 kg (depending on the instal\u00adla\u00adtion site) are avail\u00adable in many axial and centrifugal vari\u00adants, covering the widest variety of appli\u00adca\u00adtions for air-to-water heat pumps for outdoor use and for indoor use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">High energy effi\u00adciency and low noise emis\u00adsions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Energy effi\u00adciency and noise char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adis\u00adtics are also impor\u00adtant aspects when selecting fans for heat pumps. Modern EC motors are the driving force behind the fans. Users benefit from Green\u00adTech EC tech\u00adnology in several ways: One of them is thanks to its energy effi\u00adciency. When gener\u00adating the desired heat output, heat pumps should consume as little primary energy as possible. The compressor consumes much more power than the fan, but it still pays to have the fan work at the highest possible effi\u00adciency. To keep noise emis\u00adsions low, large fans should operate in the low speed range as far as possible. It goes without saying that the EC motors used in the fans are easy to control, as the speed can be further reduced at night without a problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that switching off the heat pump to avoid trouble with the neigh\u00adbors is not neces\u00adsary. (Graphic | ebm-papst)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Good inter\u00adplay between fan impellers or blades with the motor and elec\u00adtronics is another key element for quiet fan oper\u00ada\u00adtion. ebm-papst has opti\u00admized its blade and impeller geom\u00adetry to achieve consid\u00ader\u00adable improve\u00adments in aero\u00addy\u00adnamic effi\u00adciency and noise emis\u00adsion. Psychoa\u00adcoustic aspects were also taken into account to ensure that fan noise comes across as pleas\u00adantly as possible. For quiet oper\u00ada\u00adtion, the fans can usually be combined with guide vanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Flow\u00adGrid reduces noise resulting from the condi\u00adtions of instal\u00adla\u00adtion. This ensures that the heat pumps operate quietly at all times.
