Kyung Dong Navien, or just KD Navien, is in many ways the number one company in its industry. Founded in 1978, the heating tech\u00adnology company, which is head\u00adquar\u00adtered in Seoul, was the first manu\u00adfac\u00adturer to develop and produce gas condensing heating in all of Asia. Now, it is the biggest-selling producer of boilers in Korea, in terms of both domestic and inter\u00adna\u00adtional sales. In addi\u00adtion, KD Navien has the most patents out of all compa\u00adnies in this sector in the country, and main\u00adtains the largest research and devel\u00adop\u00adment team. It is also taking the lead in terms of green tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies. With all this in mind, KD Navien has every reason to look to the future with opti\u00admism. Espe\u00adcially as the govern\u00adment, like many other coun\u00adtries, has set itself the goal of making Korea climate-neutral from 2050. There\u00adfore, since 2020, only envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtally low-impact condensing boilers have been permitted for re-instal\u00adla\u00adtion. This is also good news for the Korean market leader KD Navien, who can now hope for even greater demand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Blowers for all extremes<\/span><\/h2>\n

The company became successful by manu\u00adfac\u00adturing boilers for private house\u00adholds. To tap into new markets, KD Navien decided to expand into the commer\u00adcial sector as well. Schools, gyms, small compa\u00adnies and large resi\u00adden\u00adtial complexes also all require heat from effi\u00adcient devices. <\/span><\/p>\n

So the engi\u00adneers got busy devel\u00adoping a boiler for the power range of up to 120 kilo\u00adwatts. It should also work reli\u00adably in harsh condi\u00adtions \u2013 in other words, it must be able to cope with extreme cold, high alti\u00adtudes, and voltage fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions in the grid so that it is also suit\u00adable for export to China, Russia and the USA. One part is still missing \u2013 a blower for the gas\/air composite system that is suit\u00adable for these condi\u00adtions. <\/span><\/p>\n

Normally, KD Navien insists that all the compo\u00adnents be produced in-house. But given the lower batch sizes in this power range compared to the boilers in the private sector, the devel\u00adopers took a different approach on this occa\u00adsion and decided to work with ebm-papst. <\/span><\/p>\n

Double-tested keeps better<\/span><\/h2>\n

This worked out well for Kun Sub Lee. The Managing Director of the Korean subsidiary of ebm-papst has long been trying to go into busi\u00adness with Korea\u2019s number one boiler manu\u00adfac\u00adturer. Now, his chance had finally arrived: \u201cWith the RG 148 fan plat\u00adform, we had exactly the right product for the appli\u00adca\u00adtion. And we already had the UL certifi\u00adcate that is so impor\u00adtant for the US market.\u201d With this, a major obstacle to exporting to the USA had already been cleared. Yet although the fan had already proven itself in prac\u00adtice time and time again, the engi\u00adneers at the Korean manu\u00adfac\u00adturer wanted to get to know it more closely. There\u00adfore, they subjected the compo\u00adnent to tests once again, including temper\u00ada\u00adture, humidity and vibra\u00adtion tests, which ebm-papst had already performed as stan\u00addard. It is perfec\u00adtion that has made KD Navien successful, and that means leaving nothing to chance. The RG 148 lived up to its promise, so Lee won the contract. <\/span><\/p>\n

Since, along\u00adside China and the USA, Russia is an impor\u00adtant target market for boilers, ebm-papst modi\u00adfied the elec\u00adtronics to make them less suscep\u00adtible to inter\u00adfer\u00adence. Lee explains: \u201cThe power grids there are much less stable than in Europe or North America, for example, but this must not impair the fan\u2019s reli\u00ada\u00adbility.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span>The boiler is now on the market under the series name NFB-C. If a higher heating power is required, several units can be connected in cascade mode. Until now, the fan in the boiler has performed very well in prac\u00adtice without any prob\u00adlems. KD Navien is there\u00adfore also plan\u00adning to use ebm-papst\u2019s prod\u00aducts again for the next-highest perfor\u00admance class. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
