Such appli\u00adca\u00adtions often call for compact drives with rela\u00adtively low power that have to work very reli\u00adably and with high posi\u00adtioning accu\u00adracy.<\/p>\n<p>Dura\u00adbility, quiet oper\u00ada\u00adtion, a wide range of speeds and precise speed control are addi\u00adtional require\u00adments to be met. For such cases, users are well advised to use the config\u00adurable ECI-42 drives from drive specialist ebm-papst. This makes them perfect for use in medical equip\u00adment, and their users benefit from complete drive solu\u00adtions from a single source. High power density makes the drives very compact, which is helpful when designing equip\u00adment as it often enables more compact dimen\u00adsions.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of all the config\u00adu\u00adra\u00adtions is a brush\u00adless, elec\u00adtron\u00adi\u00adcally commu\u00adtated internal rotor motor with a diam\u00adeter of 42 mm and stator lengths of 20 or 40 mm. It achieves output levels of around 45 or 90 watts at a nominal torque of 110 or 220\u2008mNm and a nominal speed of 4,000 rpm. Its effi\u00adciency rating is up to 80%. The motors come in stan\u00addard designs of 24 and 48 VDC safety extra-low voltage. Hall sensors for rotor posi\u00adtion detec\u00adtion are inte\u00adgrated, and the motor is actu\u00adated by an external, closed-loop controller. Along with plan\u00ade\u00adtary and spur gears with various reduc\u00adtion ratios, space-saving EtaCrown crown gear\u00adheads based on inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive crown-gear tech\u00adnology can also be supplied, for example. The Noise\u00adless\u00adPlus 42 plan\u00ade\u00adtary gear\u00adhead guar\u00adan\u00adtees ultra-quiet oper\u00ada\u00adtion and with the Optimax 42 trans\u00admis\u00adsion (Fig. 4), there is now an extremely rugged, over\u00adload-proof one- or two-stage plan\u00ade\u00adtary gear\u00adhead with IP50 or even IP54 degree of protec\u00adtion that also works with the small 42 mm drives.<\/p>\n<p>If the appli\u00adca\u00adtion in ques\u00adtion demands holding or safety brakes for quick emer\u00adgency stop or, for example, to safely main\u00adtain the posi\u00adtion of lifting equip\u00adment in the event of a power supply failure, modules with perma\u00adnent-magnet or spring-oper\u00adated brakes can be added to the drive unit, ruling out risks for the patient. In this way, posi\u00adtions can also be held precisely and securely over longer periods for X-rays.<\/p>\n<h2>Measuring posi\u00adtions with high-reso\u00adlu\u00adtion encoders<\/h2>\n<p>An encoder module can be inte\u00adgrated in the drive unit for precise posi\u00adtion measure\u00adment. Its magnetic incre\u00admental encoder works with a reso\u00adlu\u00adtion of 12 bits, which increases depending on the selected trans\u00admis\u00adsion solu\u00adtion so that a preci\u00adsion of up to 0.08 degrees can be achieved at the output shaft. The rota\u00adtion counter works without batteries, instead using an energy-harvesting system based on the Wiegand effect so that the energy needed to store the rota\u00adtion infor\u00adma\u00adtion is gener\u00adated from a rotating magnetic field. These include industry-stan\u00addard connec\u00adtors, in which the radial angled plug with bayonet connector can rotate and engages auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcally.
