Fans in evap\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtors must over\u00adcome high counter-pres\u00adsure since the ice that often forms on the heat exchanger constricts the air chan\u00adnels. From that point of depar\u00adture, motor and fan specialist ebm-papst devel\u00adoped AxiEco Protect (Fig. 1), a new axial fan series in both EC and AC tech\u00adnology. It features high effi\u00adciency and unusu\u00adally high stability under pres\u00adsure.<\/p>\n<p>AxiEco Protect\u2019s air perfor\u00admance curve has a much steeper slope than that of compa\u00adrable axial fans (Fig. 2). In prac\u00adtical use, this results in several bene\u00adfits. Even when the counter-pres\u00adsure is high, the fans func\u00adtion at high effi\u00adciency. As a result, even AC designs satisfy the require\u00adments of the future ErP Direc\u00adtive. Manu\u00adfac\u00adturers can now choose the tech\u00adnology upon which they prefer to rely. And service life, the interval between defrost cycles, is also extended. (Photo | ebm-papst)<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<h2>New aero\u00addy\u00adnamics concept<\/h2>\n<p>The key to the increased effi\u00adciency and higher pres\u00adsure increase of AxiEco Protect fans is aero\u00addy\u00adnamic opti\u00admiza\u00adtion. For example, the impeller, inte\u00adgrated diffusor ring, and hub form a compact unit and the blade tips seam\u00adlessly join the inte\u00adgrated diffusor ring. This elim\u00adi\u00adnates the head gap between nozzle and impeller, also elim\u00adi\u00adnating the blade tip over\u00adtop\u00adping seen in conven\u00adtional axial fans. The new design increases effi\u00adciency and reduces noise at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>The inte\u00adgrated diffusor ring also func\u00adtions as a diffuser that is directly inte\u00adgrated into the impeller. It increases the pres\u00adsure, resulting in reduced exit loss and less noise. (Chart | ebm-papst)<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<h2>Perfectly harmo\u00adnized to different appli\u00adca\u00adtions<\/h2>\n<p>With many prac\u00adtical design details, the new AxiEco Protect has been opti\u00admized for venti\u00adlation, refrig\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion and air condi\u00adtioning appli\u00adca\u00adtions. When used in evap\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtors or heat pumps, the axial fan series makes both service work and compli\u00adance with hygiene rules easier. It will never be possible to fully prevent ice forma\u00adtion on heat exchangers and fans. But it is possible to mini\u00admize it, which also extends their service life.<\/p>\n<p>Many users have wished for reduced ice forma\u00adtion, and the devel\u00adopers fulfilled their wish in the new series by applying several measures. The new flow profile of AxiEco Protect fans ensures that guard grills do not ice as quickly. And the impeller with the inte\u00adgrated diffusor ring has been produced in highly resis\u00adtant plastic, a mate\u00adrial that, in and of itself, discour\u00adages icing. The fans\u2019 guard grill is made of metal, which means that it is highly robust. (Illus\u00adtra\u00adtion | ebm-papst)<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Drainage chan\u00adnels on the fan blades ensure that after routine defrosting, melt water can easily drain towards the drip pan provided at the evap\u00ado\u00adrator. They prevent the fan blades from freezing up. At the same time, water is prevented from splashing when the fan is restarted. The more strin\u00adgent the hygiene require\u00adments, the more impor\u00adtant this feature becomes. Splash water must be prevented from cont\u00ada\u00adm\u00adi\u00adnating food stored in open containers when\u00adever possible, for example.<\/p>\n<p>The fans come in sizes 300, 350, 400, 450, and 500 and are avail\u00adable in EC and AC design (Fig. 4). With air flows of up to 12,000 m\u00b3\/h and pres\u00adsures of up to 450 Pa, they are ideal for a number of typical appli\u00adca\u00adtions in refrig\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion, air condi\u00adtioning and venti\u00adlation tech\u00adnology, and can be used for both pres\u00adsure and suction. As a compact plug &amp; play solu\u00adtion, they are easily inte\u00adgrated into appli\u00adca\u00adtions. (Chart | ebm-papst)<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>The new AxiEco Protect fans satisfy the require\u00adments of the next ErP stage, regard\u00adless of the motor tech\u00adnology used. And the fans with EC motors offer many more advan\u00adtages. In compar\u00adison to AC motors, EC motors func\u00adtion with consid\u00ader\u00adably higher effi\u00adciency. They also generate less waste heat, an impor\u00adtant advan\u00adtage for chilling appli\u00adca\u00adtions. Needs-based controls and fan moni\u00adtoring via 0-10 V signal or MODBUS are also possible.<\/p>\n<p>These features help the EC fans to work very effi\u00adciently in the partial-load range as well, and signif\u00adi\u00adcantly reduce energy consump\u00adtion. This facil\u00adi\u00adtates indi\u00advidual adap\u00adta\u00adtion to partic\u00adular cooling require\u00adments. Typical exam\u00adples include the maturing of cheese and the ripening of sensi\u00adtive fruit and vegeta\u00adbles in storage, and varying day and night oper\u00ada\u00adtion. The new features enable needs-based air flow to be easily set in venti\u00adlation appli\u00adca\u00adtions as well.
