No wonder that the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motor\u00adsport team has to completely re-tune its cars for every race. Andrew Shovlin, Track\u00adside Engi\u00adneering Director at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motor\u00adsport explained: \u201eThere are almost never two races where the car doesn\u2019t have some update for either perfor\u00admance or a reli\u00ada\u00adbility modi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion. The main changes on the perfor\u00admance side are aero\u00addy\u00adnamic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And at ebm-papst, we don\u2019t go by the book when offering customer solu\u00adtions either. Instead, they are adjusted to the customer\u2019s require\u00adments and some parts may even require custom devel\u00adop\u00adment. \u201cSome customers require indi\u00advidual aero\u00addy\u00adnamic compo\u00adnents or cable lengths, and others have special require\u00adments for controls and data eval\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion. The selec\u00adtion soft\u00adware is based on exten\u00adsive datasets compiled by ebm-papst itself. They help the racing cars adapt to different race\u00adtracks and drive constant further devel\u00adop\u00adment. As Andrew Shovlin reported: \u201eThe car is devel\u00adoped in simu\u00adla\u00adtion, be it computer models like the driver simu\u00adlator or CFD analysis to under\u00adstand aero dynamic devel\u00adop\u00adment direc\u00adtion. Making sure that those simu\u00adla\u00adtions corre\u00adlate to reality is there\u00adfore a vital part of making the correct devel\u00adop\u00adment deci\u00adsions.\u201d The process is also so deci\u00adsive because Formula One<sup>TM<\/sup> teams only have a limited number of test days on which they can collect data about the cars\u2019 behavior on the race\u00adtrack.<\/p>\n<h2>Faster to the ideal solu\u00adtion<\/h2>\n<p>For ebm-papst customers as well, time is often a deci\u00adsive factor. To be in a posi\u00adtion to offer customized solu\u00adtions, the company has devel\u00adoped various modular systems. One example is the modular system for drives with diam\u00ade\u00adters of 42 mm (ECI-42). It contains motors, drives, elec\u00adtronics, brakes and sensors. They can be quickly config\u00adured to meet specific customer require\u00adments and shipped. The short delivery time is impor\u00adtant for the devel\u00adopers who work for ebm-papst\u2019s customers: They want to quickly have a product so they can continue their work. And with stan\u00addard prod\u00aducts alone, ebm-papst would not be able to satisfy diverse customer require\u00adments.
